m0jo Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Mini HDMI -> HDMI will keep the sound and other information in the signal.
Haggart Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 If I remember correctly, it doesn't matter, both are just a formfactor of the same datastream, so there's no information loss in any direction intended. There's no "Overkill". There's only "open fire!" and "time to reload". Specs: i7-980@4,2Ghz, 12GB RAM, 2x GTX480, 1x 8800GTS, X-Fi HD, Cougar, Warthog, dcs-F16-pedals
EtherealN Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Correct, it's like USB/miniUSB/microUSB. The connector just has a different physical shape. LawnDart Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Mini HDMI -> HDMI will keep the sound and other information in the signal. That's the only real difference I was aware of. If you go HDMI > DVI you'd lose the sound option (if your monitor has speakers). Picture quality would still be the same. I use Mini-HDMI > HDMI just because it's one cable, no connectors and it's cleaner (less mess behind the furniture). Viper101 Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 DVI and HDMI are the same thing, just HDMI carries sound also. I would do mini-HDMI to HDMI just because it's one wire. It would save you the trouble of getting a DVI to HDMI connector. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
pixelpilot Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I have a cable that is DVI at the pc end and HDMI at the end connected to my tv and i get sound through it. (Nvidia Geforce 560ti) will depend on your card and drivers tho.
Succellus Posted August 20, 2011 Author Posted August 20, 2011 I bought the Mini -> normal HDMI sounded the wisest choice and price diference was insignificant.
