WildBillKelsoe Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Hello again, Is the jammer pod even necessary in campaign missions? I mean if one has a standoff play style, not getting too close, using TGP for detection and ViD of threats, and using terrain masking. Does it become necessary even with SEAD and CAP boys cleaning the hood? For all I know, sustained TGP vision on either sides demands the outmost station be free of anything... Convince me.. AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
sobek Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 In a symmetrical scenario i'd not want to miss it. It allows you for a greater margin of error, e.g. if you overlooked a sam that goes active after you are well inside its engagement range, the jammer will increase your chances of getting out alive. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
cichlidfan Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Unless you are carrying no other weapons under the wings, I can't imagine that the ECM pod would block your field of view by any significant amount. Certainly not enough to warrant flying without under most circumstances where the threats are not totally known. As far as the sim is concerned then I guess it would depend on just how creative and sneaky the mission builder was.:D ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! kylania Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I wish there was an easier method to getting rid of the AIM-9s. Also using custom loadouts you can mount the jammer centerline on pylon 6 keeping it out of the way, though that might be a little cheaty.
