Hello All!

I have been a flight simulator addict for the better part of 15 years but never really was into the fighter planes. I enjoyed more of the 747s A-320s etc etc. That was until I saw a trailer of DCS A-10. I was freaking amazed. I had been contemplating getting a new computer to get back into flight simming and DCS gave me a reason.

I am not much of a computer techie, i.e not one to follow whats the best and greatest. So, I have been relying a lot on other peoples examples of their rigs to try and build my own. I ended up finding this NewEgg combo that I think will work pretty well. I would like to hear your comments though:

Wow that was steep, plus I need to buy a copy of windows and get a X52 Pro and Track IR. This is going to get pricey....Could I get away without the Track IR for a bit or is it critical?

Anyways, I welcome anyones suggestions and can't wait to jump into this community! Oh, and any tips on how to either convince my wife that it is totally worth the money would be great too!

hi there,

i would go for a better gfx-card. probably a gtx 570 and buy a second one in early 2012 when prices are dropping. Also for the price go for 16gb of ram (if you can afford it). I wouldnt do any flight sims without track ir or a good hotas system. probably the x52 standard version would be ok too.

and hey... have fun with this great sim :)

the rest of your hardware is nice =)

The video card will do just fine. Mine is the over-clocked version but the standard will be sufficient. 8GB is also sufficient, you won't see a significant difference with 16.

Possibly upgrade to the AX series PSU from Corsair and switch to a Western Digital Caviar Black disk drive (I just prefer WD).

Get the TIR for sure, with that cockpit you really want it. The X52 will do the job there just fine.

hdd: Add SSD to your setup, min. 80GB for OS & LO/DCS (i.e. 320series, ~150€ here), you will not regret it...

mobo: I'd personaly go with Z68 chipset. P67 is very good, Z68 is the best of P67 & H67 (+ a few nice features)

gpu: 560Ti is good choice, just think about getting 2GB version (costs just 20-30 bucks more)

Thanks for the tips guys! Here is what I am thinking now. Going to wait on the SSD to pay for the TrackIR. Anyone know about MSI? Do they make good cards?

msi is fine, but I prefer a longer warranty.... I went with pny (lifetime warranty), not sure if evga still offers lifetime warranty also...

eah company is the same card with different coolers..... small performance differences...

retail or oem...

retail offers best warranty and you get more extras..

read reviews on internet..

G.Skill 64 GB Ram, 2TB SSD

EVGA Nvidia RTX 2080-TI (trying to hang on for a bit longer)

Thanks for all the input guys! Here is what I have decided on.

Mobo: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO

HDD: WD Caviar Black 500GB 7200RPM

CPU: Intel i5 2500K

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB

Graphics: EVGA 01G-P3-1567-KR NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti DS Superclocked

Case: Cool Master Storm Scout

PSW: Corsair Pro HX650W

TrackIR

Saitek X52

Windows 7 64 Bit

...and of course DCS A:10!!!!

Only other thing I can think of is a CPU cooler..Might just see what they have at Micro City tomorrow. This is going to be a VERY expensive trip. I hate building new PCs :sad_2:

Check out micro center.com. Much better prices and a great company. When I bought my parts for my build they were the best priced. Btw, you will love the i5 2500k!

Running an i5 2500K OC'd to4.7, 8g DDR3 Ram, 2TB HD space, Diamond 6670 Video, X52 Pro Stick setup.
