Kula66 Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 You're in a F-15 v a 33 ... he probably has EMs. You are jamming ... before burn through, he fires when your signal strength reaches x in his RWR ... result: You get smacked in the face BEFORE reaching burn through with no warning. Apart from waiting for 1.11 (where I believe this will change to a Russian problem!) ... how do you work round this? Wait 'til he fires before switching on jammer? Any other suggestions? BTW, that was a great article on jammers over on Frugals on ECM ... can't remember who wrote it but thanks! PS> Thanks S77 ... the last couple of nights I've had some great games on your server ... some real demons out there.
Prophet_169th Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 You shouldnt have your jammer on all the time. It will keep that from happening. Though if you only turn it on once he fires, it defeats some of what ECM does. One of the nice things it does, is mask your range. Usually I wait for a spike on RWR or TEWS. And only if I am up high enough to be in danger. Also, you should learn to read the TEWS like the RWR. Its harder since you dont have a signal strength, but you should get a hang of knowing when hes close enough to fire. If the spike appears to be close enough to fire, turn off your jammer, if he had you locked, it will break is lock, and he will have to re-lock you. Since the lock breaks, its a good idea to try and change altitude quickly. That way if his scan cone isnt right, he wont see you and you can get closer, to get a 120 off.

Thanks, the TWS almost needs strength rings ... I guessed about a symbols width is just before burn through range ... so I fired a HOJ AMRAAM at this range - but he'd already fired! As for keeping the jammer on ... I try not to, but then when he gets a lock, I switch on. Although most players seem to fly with it on permenantly ... switching in on/off gives the opponent a glimpse of range info ...
Prophet_169th Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Switching on/off may give em some range info, but gives em hell to keep a lock. I have heard that it will trash missles also.

It is a nightmare. Also all Russian missiles leave smoke trails so keep your eyes peeled when you are at that range. Do some simple manuevering, HOJ shots are long range by nature and easily defeated if you assume they are on their way. Personally I dont use ECM much, usually only when bugging out, or desperate. Kula66 Posted August 29, 2005 Author Posted August 29, 2005 Not flying it predictable straight lines directly at the target ... seems like a good idea ... I guess I'll give that a go.
