Trouble navigating through mountains.. Picking up remnant targets...

Hello again,

This is the campaign mission Deployment/The Other Side track of me and 4 AI wingmen flying to a valley in the coves of some wicked elevations.. AI number 2 crashed to the mountain, leaving 3 and 4 for the rest of the mission.

My problem is navigating those tall (4000 + AGL) mountains... I looked closely to the map and found nowhere to go but through those stretches leading to the highest top, and that got me through after a near blade chop-chop and almost crapped myself passing the last ridge to WPT/Ingress (Hold)..

Its a long track, and I hope the file system didnt change my behaviour as I'm really the third time doing it.. First and second times I crashed to the mountains...

Also, the AI seems to neglect other targets in the vicinity, even on scanning and re-scanning the trigger zone, some targets slipped and I never got the DL receive to get them.. Had I known their positions, I would have finished the mission..

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

4000ASL.

Stick to your Flight Plan - the highest you climb there is approx 3800mASL, well within the parameters of the Kamov which can get to 5000+m ASL loaded up without issue. Just coax her up at a decent climb angle of approx 5m/s at 130km/h and you'll be fine. As stated, anti-ice system (4 switches) on as soon as possible.

You sure about that? According to http://www.kamov.ru/en/production/ka50/

the hover ceiling is 4300.... Maybe sim is way off true?

The SIM is dead-on ;)

As said, at altitude you are not hovering - if you are you're doing it wrong. Service ceiling is approx 5500m which gels quite nicely with the SIM. Try and scale that mountain due right of your flight-plan that mission - Stands at approx 5700m ASL IIRC. Loaded up you get to about 5300m ASL.

I'll post a wee track later on if all goes well.

No bother :)

It's good for practice and teaches you a lot of how the Kamov handles at altitude (very twitchy). Another thing to do is, when you get up there, ditch your externals and see/learn how they affect performance.

For giggles, find a plateau high up (higher the better) in the mountains, land and then attempt to take off again......Kamov's a good teacher she is - just gotta be patient :D

Edit:

Here we go. Excuse the fidelity of the track as I'm one-handed so flying's kinda twitchy with the left. In any event, also illustrates that while 130km/h IAS is ideal, you can do it faster if you wish.

I approached the peak at initial GS/IAS of 250/210 and thereafter 220/180 and on final at 160/120. Saw I was a bit heavy and jettisoned weapons and scooted over at a good pace:
