ncimike3 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 I would really like to try to practice tanker refueling. Is there a mission I can do this in? How do I go about it. Is there a secret to do this. I opened up one mission that included a tanker, I radioed the tanker on the right channel but no response. Do I have to get to certain location first? I read the manual a bit but it wasn't real clear on how to initiate contact. Any practice missions out there just for this? thanks for any help in advance EVGA X58 FTW3 | i7-960 3.2GHz | 6Gb DDR3 1600Mhz | GTX 680 4Gb | Win 7 64 |TM HOTAS Warthog | Combat Rudder Pedals | TrackIR 5 | TM MFD Cougar set | Logithech G35 Headset
Fish Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 (edited) Lots of posts/info videos around. Here's a couple of videos. If you need a mission file PM me. Lots of other resources also here http://dcswiki.com/index.php?title=DCS:_A-10C_Tutorial_Collection If you are new to DCS A10, AAR is not the place I would choose to start learning. :smilewink: Edited October 17, 2011 by Fish Fish's Flight Sim Videos [sIGPIC]I13700k, RTX4090, 64gb ram @ 3600, superUltraWide 5120x1440, 2560x1440, 1920x1080, Warthog, Tusba TQS, Reverb VR1000, Pico 4, Wifi6 router, 360/36 internet[/sIGPIC]
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 We use this mission for training. It has a tanker in it on freq. 129.00 (ARCO). The TACAN info is in the brief. I can't give you a whole lot more than that right now as I'm still learning the basics myself. We should have this mission up tonight on our DCS-Mercs server if you'd like to jump on. The only thing I don't understand is how to get the TACAN info in to point you to the tanker. In any case put the mission file into your multiplayer mission folder and host your own mission to fly it.Training 2.3..miz http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
Fish Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 (edited) .......The only thing I don't understand is how to get the TACAN info in to point you to the tanker............. Tacan channel to briefing setting. Tacan mode switch to AATR (to right of channel input panel, air to air, transmit, receive) Tacan button on nav panel (front panel behind stick) to on. Turn to BPN1 (bearing point needle 1 on HSI, labelled '1') Watch the distance on the HSI (top left of Horizontal Situation Indicator). Oh, and tune into tanker on radio, and request refuel, cause he'll give you his station altitude. EtherealN Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 First of all, make sure you set tanker frequency on the forward radio, so, for example: Set forward radio to 131.00 Mic Switch Forward F6 to open communication and request rejoin Once close to the tanker, report station and open the recepticle (lower left panel, below the landing gear lever) Await RDY light on the right side of the HUD Get in in there and hold formation, don't get too jumpy or he will order you to disconnect. Nose Wheel button opens/closes recepticle. If you get disconnected you'll have to press that button again. ncimike3 Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 I've been playing around with DCS for about 8 months now on and off. Still a novice but getting much better on the Nav and CDU stuff. Just learned bulls eye offset nav last week. This weeks goal is AAR. I'll give this a try an let you know. Thanks so much for the help. EtherealN Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 The difficult thing is to hold stable enough. The boom operator will follow you, so you have some margins, but if you start to oscillate and have troubly, just disconnect (NWS button), back off, open the recepticle again (NWS) and go again. If you start oscillating you'll only make it worse through trying to "set it straight". Expect a lot of frustration, but after a while something just "clicks" and you manage to follow the tanker pretty well. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
