agrasyuk Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 (edited) Hello ED forum members. been reading this forum for well over a year and learned bunch of interesting things. ive been into flying sims since the days of F-19. these past years i've been mostly stuck with civilian flight (alone mostly with some exposure to VATSIM multiplay), but fired up aces high 2 training at a times. then i found myself totaly immersed in rise of flight combat. wanted to do something more high-tech so recently purchased DCS A10, TM warthog and cougar MFDs to go with it (and while i was at it upgraded to saitek combat pedals). below are the pictures of my humble setup. not a full pit since i can't have dedicated flight station, but somewhat more then plain joystick. since the pictures were taken i used the excelent manual here to extend the TM stick 6 inches (gardena adapter + copper pipie), just enough so it clears the top of the table. i love the long throw, but with such leverage there is almost no spring feel left. anyone tried to increase spring tension? how? or am i better off with almost none? your opinion is welcome Edited November 14, 2011 by agrasyuk updated path to pictures Anton. Supersheep Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 (edited) Hi! Here is someone who mounted a strong spring to his: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=75434&highlight=spring+tension And, if you allow: How tightly does your extention fit? I build mine from the Gardena kit and some plastic pipe, but the threads have a minimal play. This means I can move the stick without moving the shaft or creating input. Which diameter (inside/outside) does your pipe piece have? However, I did not mind about the weaker springs, as my HOTAS Warthog has a bit of "sticktion" (or whatever it was called in the other thread...), so in default configuration, I cannot make ultra-fine inputs (maybe someone knows which grease to apply to its ball?). agrasyuk Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 (edited) thank you. wow, what a contraption... i used copper piping material and soldered the fittings, so there is no play at all - solid. used 1" pipe and 1 to 1.25 adapter (IIRC), biggest that would fit the gardena nut. the wide part of the adapter had to be cut in length in order for threads to be able to engage. fresh pic below. for now i'm haven't bothered to pretty up the shaft, thinking about cutting it just a bit shorter. agrasyuk Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 all right, below is my crude approach adding spring tension. due to lack of better materials used 4" wood screws as tie posts, held in 0 90,180 and 270 positions by clamps. grinded the coarse threading off the screws so they sit flat against the housing, both clamps are placed on the metal ring parts so i don't anticipate housing breakage. the tension is provided by hair scrunchies, after some experimentation i kept 2 per direction. works really well, not much muscle is needed to pull, but now the stick will actually return to center thinking of sewing together a cloth cover to hide this contraption Anton.
