Hey folks!

Today I found out that you can do:

-Select your MAV D

-TGP on target, point track, make SPI

-MAV slave to SPI

-MAV TMS up short to lock on

-fire

AWESOME! :)

But this only works out if the mav has enough "contrast" to actually lock on. That may require you to come closer to the target than you want.

The maverick H also has this issue, but it has the advantage of the force correlate mode. So you can basically say "hey, even if you dont have a lock on an object, just shoot that spot". You just hold your boat switch in center for 1 sec and then press either TMS up short or TMS down short, one of both I think... Not sure now.

But this way you can fire off MAVs way further away than the dynamic launch zone shows. I love it.

Question - will force correlate track a point if it's moving? :-/ If yes, I will from now on only load MAV 65H from now on and rock with them! :D

You'd have to test. My hunch is it won't, since the game isn't actually rendering an image and then scanning it for sufficient contrast in order to decide if it's locked or not. It'd just be doing something along the lines of "they're using force correlate, so lock it onto that spot on the ground" or what have you.

When you lock onto a vehicle in the normal method, the sim knows you've locked that particular game world object, and therefore can guide the maverick to it if it moves.

At least, that's my understanding.

Thank you very much.

I had one the other day, where a mav-d was taking WAY too long to lock, finally did, then I launched. Just as I did, I get deedledeedledeedle...OH CRAP! Missile Launch! Oooo. gonna be close. Then Mav hits, deedle stops and sam goes off into the wild blue.

Force Correlate will not track a moving object, either real world or in the sim.

So, how does force correlate work, since it doesn't track any moving target? Not a contrast lock?

Obviously. Have you been fighting the broken Maverick slew this whole time?

Issue is not the word for that. Feature is. Anyway, UP is the correct direction to command a force correlate lock, just as it is for a contrast lock. The position of the boat switch determines which you are commanding.

But this way you can fire off MAVs way further away than the dynamic launch zone shows. I love it.

No you can't. If you launch further out than the high end of the DLZ, the Maverick will not reach the target. You can, however, fire at the extreme range of the DLZ without waiting to get close enough for a contrast lock, which is most useful for stationary SAMs.

It does something called scene recognition/building. While contrast of features is required to make it work, it does more work than 'just' a contrast lock, since it has to figure out that the target that was maybe 30 pixels across before is now filling the screen.

Contrast lock is not a good way to attack large buildings for this reason.

So, how does force correlate work, since it doesn't track any moving target? Not a contrast lock?

So what is the guy doing in this video?

Is this force correlate?

It seems strange, because he says middle boat switch is "ground stabilize" and TMS Aft Short is "uncage". That's not what it says in the manual I have. It says Middle Boat Switch is "Force Correlate / Auto" and TMS Aft Short is "ground stabilize". Yet, in the video, it seems to be what he says.

You are correct, and he is wrong. Bringing the switch to the center position puts the missile in FC mode.

He's using force correlate, but in a bit of a haphazard poorly planned way. The term ground stabilise is used incorrectly in that video.

Ahh, ok. I was thinking it was kind of weird.
