Rob2222 Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Hello, I have just purchased DCS A-10C as used game. However, I am still waiting for it to arrive. Now I am reading here something from a account system here and the serial is bound to it. I didn't knew this from DCS BlackShark. Now I am a little bit worry, that this game I just purchased is already registered and I did not get the account information with it. Will the customer support help me in this case if I can prove that I am a legit (new) owner by picture of keycard / bill of purchase? Best Regards Robert
EtherealN Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 EULA, part 3.1 "Except as expressly set out in this Licence or in clauses 4.1 and 4.2 below, or as permitted by any local law, you undertake to use the Program for your own personal use, and you shall not:" "(d) sell, rent, lease, sub-license, distribute, loan, translate, merge, adapt, vary, modify or otherwise transfer the Program, or any copies of the Program, without the express prior written consent of TFC" The person who sold it does not have the legal right to sell it to you, unfortunately. I am unsure how this would be handled but I can ask the appropriate staff, but my understanding is that there is no way to verify this properly and the license will technically remain with the seller. I'll make sure to alert the appropriate staff to this thread though and they can correct me if necessary and give you any further guidance. (As an aside, the above clauses applied to DCS BlackShark as well.) Rob2222 Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 (edited) Oh dear. I was happy to find a used boxed one (which I wanted to have) for 2/3rd of the download price and now this. Cause of the 1 new activation/month thing, I thought I am on the safe side. Is there a way for the seller (its a used-things-sale-company, not the previous owner) to check if the Key is already bound to a account? I think a copy of the purchase e-mail (amazon marketplace in this case) and a picture/scan of the original keycard could verify the purchase. Or maybe both in one picture taken by a digital camera. GGTharos Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Here's the deal: The seller may be able to sell it to you, depending on where they are - for example, in the EU, AFAIK, first sale doctrine applies, full stop. However, when you buy second hand, you are THAT person's customer, not ED's. You need to ask the person/company you bought the game from. If the game is boxed and nothing is missing, it should include a serial number within so you'll be ok. Rob2222 Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 If the game is boxed and nothing is missing, it should include a serial number within so you'll be ok. But when the first owner created a multiplayer-account and he has not attached the account data to the game, I still cannot play online, even if I have a complete box incl. original serial number, right? Or is the serial number not hard-bound to a account, so I just can create my own account with the original serial number? I just thinking about what to do. Waiting for the shipment to arrive and just test it, or trying to cancel the order before it gets shipped?! I already mailed to the seller company about the problem, but didn't have a answer yet. Best Regards Robert
ED Team JimMack Posted October 27, 2011 ED Team Posted October 27, 2011 Suggest that when you receive the box, just create your own account with the serial number on the back of the quickstart manual. You will have less activations than a new product, but that should not be a problem. Rob2222 Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 (edited) Ok, I will just wait for the package to arrive and will do this. I am happy not to be let alone here. Thank you for the quick help so far. :) Can't wait for it. :) Best Regards Robert Edited October 27, 2011 by Rob2222
Tez Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 If previous owner played multiplayer then S/N is already assigned to an account. If you try to enter already assigned S/N you'll get an error. See details here. When we consider requests about copies sold from our websites we ask for proof of purchase. We don't recognize reselling officially. For such case new owner has to obtain transaction code at least. For boxed distribution things are simpler. It's enough to send us a serial number to prove the ownership. If you get an error during logging in multiplayer, rise a ticket with description of the issue, error text and your S/N. If it is assigned already then we free it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] =653=Tez
Stargazer Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Hi, Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, especially considering that this is my first post here, but I would just like a little reassurance. I, like the original poster, am looking to buy a copy of A10C, and I have found one that is pre-owned and at a very competitive price. If I were to buy it and it had been previously activated, would I encounter any resistance with transferring the account to me under my own details? Though not new to PC-gaming, I have only recently become aware of the new DRM systems that are effectively obliterating the used-game market. The last post here sounded very encouraging, but I would like to ensure, before I commit to a purchase, that there have been no rule changes that would prevent me from running this simulator. Many thanks and kind regards, Rob.
Stargazer Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 If it helps with an answer, the chap selling it says he bought it from Amazon originally but never really got around to using it much due to poor performance on his PC. It has not been played online but has been Activated and Updated. If I were to buy this from him, would I be stuck with something I can't use, or would I be able to re-activate for me and then create my own account for regular use? I'm not tryingto suggest that the software isn't worthy of being payed for at full price, but it is an unknown quantity for me and £30-40 is a lot of money if I can't get along with it and then not re-sell it if it isn't for me. Assistance would be genuinely appreciated, Regards, Rob.
