MadTommy Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I'm wanting to understand the radio usage in BS2 with mission creation in mind. I never really used the radio in BS1, as it didn't seem to serve much of a function. Now with BS2 the radio has more functionality. I'm very familiar with the radio system in A10c, communicating with ATC, AFAC, Other flights, JTAC & your own flight. With its 3 radios and clear write up in it's manual. Now BlackShark's manual is not seemingly as complete, which leaves me with some questions: Am i correct in thinking there is one radio on the BlackShark: the R-800L1 VHF? And this radio can use both AM & FM frequencies? What are the useable frequency ranges? Am i correct in thinking that the radio can only be used to listen to other flights communications & to talk to ATC? No JTAC is similar feature. It is not needed to talk to you own flight or ground crew? Is the only reason to use different frequencies for different flights is to reduce radio chatter and add immersion? I ask these questions with mission building in mind. Any other thoughts & suggestion on radio usage would greatly received. MadTommy Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 Regarding JTAC.. anyone tried flying as USA in Ka-50 and using a JTAC..it suddenly occurred to me this might be possible. Not sure what the results would be.... i5-3570K @ 4.5 Ghz, Asus P8Z77-V, 8 GB DDR3, 1.5GB GTX 480 (EVGA, superclocked), SSD, 2 x 1680x1050, x-fi extreme music. kylania Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I saw a video the other night about how to input a L/L location using the Abris. Basically you scroll up or down to find the Northing then left or right to find the Easting. By the time you entered the JTAC's request as a waypoint the war would be over. :) They can't use UTM either, so most of the contact would be via radio talk on, something AI JTAC can't really do. And this radio can use both AM & FM frequencies? There are two, but only the R-800 is modelled, the R-828 (?) might be modelled if a Russian FAC is implemented. The R-800 can use both AM/FM set with the selector switch, this is in the manual What are the useable frequency ranges? From the Manual The R-800 operates at frequencies between 100 and 149 MHz as well as 220 to 400MHz. Am i correct in thinking that the radio can only be used to listen to other flights communications & to talk to ATC? No JTAC is similar feature. No JTAC for the Ka-50 It is not needed to talk to you own flight or ground crew? Ground crew can talk through the open door or use the R-800 intercom. Talking to your flight is through the R-800, also in the manual Is the only reason to use different frequencies for different flights is to reduce radio chatter and add immersion? Personally I'd keep all flights on the same freq when creating a mission. I like the chatter. Comms with wingmen will always have priority for comms, other flight can't interfere. I ask these questions with mission building in mind. Any other thoughts & suggestion on radio usage would greatly received. Thanks for any help. There is no JTAC menu when flying the Ka-50 even on the US side, just tested it... so no way to communicate with JTAC, so that is a non starter. Still like to get answers to my other question though. EDIT: thanks Nate.. replied as i was too.. seems i missed quite a bit from the manual, thanks. i5-3570K @ 4.5 Ghz, Asus P8Z77-V, 8 GB DDR3, 1.5GB GTX 480 (EVGA, superclocked), SSD, 2 x 1680x1050, x-fi extreme music. kylania Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 also in the manual Not sure if anyone noticed yet, but much of the Chapter 14 Radio Communications section of the Black Shark 2 manual refers to the Black Shark 1 radio commands format and not the new "DCS A-10C" style radio menus. Starting on page 488 section 14.1 which states that the radios are set to 127.500 and never need to be changed, which is incorrect as each airfield has their own frequencies now. Also some of the F1-F9 menus are different now, such as F5 for ATC instead of F6 as described on page 489. AFAIK you can directly type in coordinates in L/L format in PVI. From manual : “ВВОД” = Edit waypoint. This function allows you to enter waypoint coordinates, wind conditions, and other data. To do so: Select EDIT Press “ППМ” and the small upper window will display the total number of waypoints currently stored. Press 1 – 6 on the keypad to select the desired waypoint number and the current waypoint coordinates will be displayed. Using the keypad, enter new coordinates for the selected waypoint. Note that you should indicate N/S or E/W prior to entering the coordinate. To make the coordinate positive, press the 0 key first; to make the coordinate negative, press the 1 key first. When set to negative, a “-“ symbol will appear left of the coordinate. After the coordinate has been entered, press the ENTER button. Or, you may press CANCEL to clear the data on the display. Gary Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Nate, Any chance we can have an updated BS2 manual please? Mainly interested in the radios section (which as stated refers to BS1) Also, Can you say if JTAC will be introduced into BS2? Asking because during some of the quick missions I've flown, the briefing tells me they are available and their freq. Kind regards, Gary I5 - 1TB SSHD, 256 SSD - Nvidia 1070 - 16gb ram - CV1
