Ramstein Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 (edited) Tried programming profiles for A-10C with my Saitek X52 Pro, and to date, this has been the hardest out of al the flight sims I have programmed into my Saiteks. It is a real pain! Tryingto convert commands to work properly on the Saitek, using unfamiliar command names.... Allother lfight sims were easy compared to A-10C. I have tried to use other people's profiles, but they were not easy to use either. :joystick: I was thinking of posting in the A-10C forum, but maybe it didn't belong there as my chat is just about it being so difficult,, no specific problem(s)... ringing up the weapons systems ont he mfd's and the comms, and selecting everythign smmothly is so hard.. I am just used to having PV1 and POV2, with the hat swtich, and other switches, not Cnina, Boat, and other switches.. they designed A-10C to work witht he Warthog Stick, which jus tplugs in directly with commands already programmed.. where as converting the info and programming the SST profile for A-10C is beyond my experience. and i have been programming my Saitek sticks for 10 years... MTFDarkEagle Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 What is it specifically you're having trouble with? Remembering what the buttons are called? Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
Ramstein Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 (edited) What is it specifically you're having trouble with? Remembering what the buttons are called? everything :book: ... too many commands, not knowing how each comand works what... different terminologies.. never had switches called boats... like I said before.. even Falcon 4 was 100x easier.. of course I once had the full manual for that sim... which helped.. :joystick: I can't use other pilot's profiles, because some of the commands are not in places I can use them the way I like.. also, I cannot use the slider, as I get to many false inputs from sloppy worn parts on my 4 year old Saitek stick... I also have a very hard time remember inputs of buttons on the keyboard and cockpit... even with tons of notes and copies of instructions.. I keep books notes and 3-ring binders... of my flight sims and instructions handy.. but hard to look up stuff while flying.. Caspet Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 (edited) Hi Ramstein. Have you tried the in game settings? I've just posted my button profile with diagram for the x52pro. its not perfect but it works well for me, e specially with the new HOTAS training mission My joystick configeration Hi all, Decided to configure my x52 pro buttons using the in-game settings. I know they are not all in the right places but it seems to work for me Have attached my reference chart (done in Paint). Let me know what you think! By the way, love the new patch, the HOTAS lesson really helped. S77th-konkussion Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 (edited) start fresh.. don't try to adapt an existing profile to DCS.. ask me how I know this.. Arrange controls as true to life as the hardware will allow. That way- you can use references like this: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BzkMgHDjxmCXODdkYzIyNzYtZjZiYi00ZGJlLWFiNTYtMTYzMzAyODNjZTdl&authkey=CPrpiZMO Once you have the truly required controls mapped- use what's left as you wish.. You MUST get your brain out of lockon mode. The design and the terms (TMS up/ left / short/ long, etc) are like they are for good reason. Ramstein Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 (edited) I have to give up on the turn knobs for A-10C. They are sending spikes of bogus inputs to the aircraft.. probably because of wear after only 4 years. In all my other flight sims, I don't have problems, but it appears that in A-10C, these spikes (false key presses are happening). When I get these false inputs, the trim goes wacky... and other problems... In Black Shark, FC 2.0 and IL-2, my stick works just fine. Even when I use large neutral bands seperating the inputs on the turn knobs I get spikes. Maybe because this sim has more commands than the others. And I do not put al the commands on the stick, but try to use as many as it and my brain can handle. Luckily, since the cockpit has clickable switches, I can decide which commands I want on the stick, and which I wil use just from the keyboard or the cockpit. and note, I have my own profiles I start from scratch,.. but have also tried other pilots profiles out of curiosity to see how well their ideas work. Of course we like to see if someone else can do things better, and if they can adopt their ideas. I will eventually buy a Warthog stick, but can't right now... For A-10C Saitek has finally found a flight sim is testing it's durability.. and when new, the flaws don't show up, but with a few years age and use, little spikes and cause all kinds of problems... and you don't know there's a problem until a sim like A-10C finds them, the hard way.. :joystick::doh: Edited November 22, 2011 by Ramstein ASUS Strix Z790-H, i9-13900, WartHog HOTAS and MFG Crosswind G.Skill 64 GB Ram, 2TB SSD EVGA Nvidia RTX 2080-TI (trying to hang on for a bit longer) 55" Sony OLED TV, Oculus VR
Ramstein Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 Saitek X52 Pro: I removed several parts of my A-10C profile,, the Rotaries... 1)I used for Elevator, and 2) I used for Rudder... I also do not use the slider. Saitek Rudder pedals. I removed the toe brakes, and onlyuse the brakes using the 'W' key on a button on my stick. I don't think I wil be getting unwanted spikes setting off erroneos, bogus commands any longer. Whiel it would have been nice to use these features, I will just have to live without them... and not worry about the aicraft being thrown into the ground from spikes out the joysticks and rudders... fyi :joystick: ASUS Strix Z790-H, i9-13900, WartHog HOTAS and MFG Crosswind G.Skill 64 GB Ram, 2TB SSD EVGA Nvidia RTX 2080-TI (trying to hang on for a bit longer) 55" Sony OLED TV, Oculus VR
69thBlade Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Are there any really good instructions for programming this flight controller for those of us who are not only new to the game but to programming a controller as well?
Blah Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Luckily, since the cockpit has clickable switches, I can decide which commands I want on the stick, and which I wil use just from the keyboard or the cockpit. You can't click the HOTAS controls though, and there's a lot of those! So you'd need to have those mapped to something or other.
