Wingmen won't take off in MP.

Just been testing a mission.. wingmen take off every time in single player, however the same units in multiplayer never take off.

They also do not respond to any radio command, but do report contact with enemies (whist sat on the FARP).

As both client and server?

Nate

As client..

(I was testing the mission in SP when it worked, then got a friend to host and tested it as client.. this is when wingmen did not take off, tested with 3 different units on both sides.)

I'll test it as host in MP as well.

Seems to work as a Server for me.

Nate

Cheers.

I'll test the mission as Host, to see if that works for me too. If it does I'd say there is a bug for clients. (that old chestnut)

Is this a confirmed bug that needs addressing?

I'd like to know with regards to mission building.. if AI wingmen are not working in MP in BS2 it would be nice to know if this is confirmed and being addressed. (Rather than myself doing something dumb)

Thanks.

Well I'll give it a shot. As far as I know since it has been this way from the beginning of this series going back to LOCKON...you cannot have AI wingmen in multiplayer. It tells you this in the GUI manual that came with the game.

No that's not right.. I've played with AI wingmen in MP in BS1 many times.

You can have wingmen in A-10 multiplayer. In patch 1.1.0.9, however, they appeared to cause lock-ups, so using them in multiplayer is NOT advised, at least by me. Besides... why do you need AI wingies in multiplayer anyway?

Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility.

Again, it is in the GUI manual where they talk about setting up and making multiplayer missions. It is not recommended to do what you are doing.

I agree...that is the point. In the GUI manual, it says basically not to do that...I can't remember page reference right now. Each wingman is supposed to be another human being in multiplayer and you set that up as if you were setting up 4 single player routes.

There are numerous valid reasons why you might want to have AI wingmen in a MP mission. But that is not the point of this thread.

Whilst i normally do not usually use AI wingmen they are a feature available to mission makers and a feature that worked fine in BS1.

Sorry i simply do not agree.. and cannot find the section you are referring to.

Below is the only section from the GUI manual i think you are referring to and it at no point says you should not have AI wingmen. If you can find the section please let me know.

When creating a multiplayer mission though, it is important to remember that all player-controlled aircraft in the mission must be set to the SKILL of CLIENT and not PLAYER. Also, keep in mind that only one CLIENT aircraft can exist in an aircraft group. For example, to create a mission for four online pilots, you will need to create four aircraft groups with a single unit set to CLIENT in each.
In fact this implies AI wingmen are a feature. 'One client per group'..(the rest being AI)

LOL...then I guess we'll agree to disagree. I read that statement you quoted above as implying player controlled aircraft only pair with player controlled aircraft in multiplayer. In order to build a possible flight of 4 aircraft in multiplayer for the human player, you must separate them into four distinct airgroups. This allows for flexibility as to how many players you have playing at any one time. I see nothing implying that AI wingmen are to be included in your flight. This has been this way as far back as the old LOCKON.

In all my years playing this series, including going online with many people, I personally have never seen a flight in multiplayer made up of one player aircraft and several other AI wingmen.
