apoll Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Hi. Just trying to get to grip with this sim. Grateful advice: 1) How do I get an idea of my flight plan in the cockpit, and I'm thinking here the altitude to the next waypoint? Where is the CDU page that has all the altitude to fly info? Also, in mission planning before I launch into the sim, where can I get the details of the flight plan like altitude of waypoints etc? 2) What does the ALT SCE stitch actually affect? The one that means I can switch between Baro, delta and Radar. It doesn't seem to do anything re my alt info on the HUD. Does it actually do anything? Thank you in advance. a
Greygoose Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 I can fully understand your query as it seems like me you came to this sim from commercial aircraft sims where the altitude is as important as the waypoint. This one is not like that.. you have far more control of the altitude that you use and it depends on the situation you find yourself in. You may be hugging the ground to use the cover of the terrain or you may be at 15000 flying above anti-aircraft threats.... you are in control. If like me this is your first combat sim I hope you are also loving the mind boggling complexity of weapon delivery and evasion tactics Its not quite like the commuter shuttle run from JFK to Heathrow is it!!!
apoll Posted November 26, 2011 Author Posted November 26, 2011 No Greygoose...It certainly AIN'T like any civilian simulator. I always get bored with civilian sims because in the end, it is just about flying from point a to point b (NOT trying to start a flame war, BTW). There is so much more going on in this sim. I've actually been at it a while..just trying to reach a deeper level re the navigation...sick of just boating around the sky on a general heading. I want some more precision in my flying. I do find the mission planner in the sim and bit spare for details. People, for example, urge me to us the baro altitude to navigate for all sorts of good reasons...but the map to use in the mission planning does not have MSL height measurements on the terrain to use in planning the flight. In that respect, the sim is behind by a fairly large degree the civilian sims. I spent hours yesterday hunting down in the manul where I could get the baro height of my aircraft position at ramp start so I could set the altimeter correctly. I live and learn... a
Eddie Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Bring up the CDU steer point page. The planned altitude for that leg is shown along with other relevant info. You can also edit the altitude, time on target and coordinates from the waypoint page. And altitude is just as important, if not more important, in military aviation than in the civillian world.
Evil.Bonsai Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 It's somewhat a good idea, depending on situation, to place waypoints at altitude for ingress/egress waypoints, then place on ground for attack points. This makes it a lot easier to point your tgp when searching for targets. I like using the min altitude settings on the UFC, to give me a warning when I get too low. I'll set it for about 10k-13K feet. Then when I drop below this when attacking, I get a nice 'altitude' warning from the VMU.
ED Team Olgerd Posted November 27, 2011 ED Team Posted November 27, 2011 2) What does the ALT SCE stitch actually affect? The one that means I can switch between Baro, delta and Radar.
