Ramstein Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Increasing ram, question on brands. Windows 7 I have a MSI P7n 750 SLI motherboard. (1) PNY GTX460 1gb 256 bit Video card ) new Core2duo 2.93 ghz cpu 2x 1gb HP ddr2 ram dimm (2gb) 600 watt antec psu (3 rail) 46" lcd tv with hdmi cable. Saitek X52 pro with Saitek pedals. Coolmaster Sentinel mouse 1 sata hard drive and 2 ide hard drive(s) about 500 GB I just ordered 2x 1gb IBM DDR2 Dimm ram. which will give me 4x1 gb (4gb ddr2 ram total) My HP ram (CL5) runs at 5-5-5, 4-4-4, 3-3-3. Unbuffered, non-ecc. The IBM is also CL5. also same specs as the HP. Anyone else ever use IBM ram ? if so is it as good or better quality than say HP or or how doe sit compare to other brands? I got a deal at Overstock.com for $24.00 new shipped (2x1gb). My machine depserately needs the added ram, it's having big problems with A-10C and Black Shark 2 with only 2 gb ddr2 ram. thanx :joystick: ASUS Strix Z790-H, i9-13900, WartHog HOTAS and MFG Crosswind G.Skill 64 GB Ram, 2TB SSD EVGA Nvidia RTX 2080-TI (trying to hang on for a bit longer) 55" Sony OLED TV, Oculus VR
leafer Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 (edited) I think your cpu is faster than mine, and the graphics card is definitely a lot faster, so the extra 2 gb of ram would help a bit. I don't think ram pedigree makes one iota of difference unless you're into overclocking. As stated by others, when you start DCS the program goes straight to your cpu's nuts til it turns blue. I should also mention that A-10C 1.1.1.0 runs slower on my machine. The release version did not bring my computer to its knees before when I got both MAV, and TGP on, but it does now. I will disable cockpit shadow today and see if it'll help. Edited December 5, 2011 by leafer I'm feeling lucky.. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
Ramstein Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 i really would like to know if anyone else has used IBM ddr ram... just very curious,,, I have owned a dozen different brands.... and also different memory timings,, so, I don't know if these wil be like Value type ram, or mid level performance ram... I suspect they are not high performance.. I was unable to find the data sheet for this model, that is why I am asking,, I will continue to look for the data sheet.. Eddie Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 It's cheap budget RAM. But as you're only adding it to your existing RAM and they are not matched pairs it doesn't really matter anyway. Your raw performance may not be as high as if you used high performance matched pairs, but double the RAM is still double the RAM.

Memory will always default to the slowest Dimm and in this case they all have the same timings so no issues. I have used the IBM stuff in some workstations and it is all much the muchness. Unless you overclock your CPU and memory it makes no difference. Not being funny but IBM are going up in the memory world (check out racetrack). I don't understand some of what you are saying, but yes, they are average memory... and I don't want to oveclock,, I know it's an old outdated computer... at least I am hearing froma person who actually used IBM ram,, it's good to hear from someone that uses a brand another person ues, just to make sure it's not junk... from most of what I read, IBM memory is mostly used in servers and blades.. most everyone uses the other most popular brands in desktop computers... never met anyone that uses IBM,, and wanted something in feedback, that's all... thanx.. :joystick: I am highly anticipating the arrival, so I can fly my sims without these terrbily long loading times and long pauses..
