Try both ways and see if you get tearing... also try tripple buffering on/off...

I'm using a 47" Vizio HDTV as a monitor, Vsync is a MUST for my rig.

I'm *pretty* sure the Hz rating of your T.V. will be the deciding factor

I have a 37inch Toshiba 1080p for my monitor and as mentioned above vsync is a must. I enable it at the driver lvl so its on for any game i play. What it does. Well when you enable vsync it will cap your fps at the max of your display, for me its 60fps because its a 60hz tv. But more importantly it cuts down on screen tearing considerably. Its almost like with it off you get an xtra 3rd of a screen thrown in from time to time and it looks odd.

Ooh I like this thread. :)

I'm moving to my new home very soon and so I bought a nice new 47" LG TV to replace my aging 42" 1080p 60Hz Vizio. I have a pretty decent 24" LG monitor that I'm using, but I got it in my head that I could use the Vizio as my computer monitor. I was just a little concerned that it might be a bit TOO much and may not look as good as a computer monitor.

How far are you guys sitting from your TVs and how does the quality of the image compare? I'd most likely go HDMI from my ATI 6750 to the TV.

I have noticed its not as sharp as my samung 23 inch at the same distance. To be expected. But i also feel the 23 is so sharp my eyes are missing out on a little bit. Its a small trade for the extra immersion you get with a large screen. Sitting about 4 ft. I think.

TV and monitor dont use the same technology, and are not made for be viewing at the same distance specially..... Dont forget a 50" TV have the same resolution of a 23" monitors ( 1920x1080 ).

The difference is even bigger with a 30", 2560x1600.

About v-sync, well just try. Personnally i found to see more tearing with Track IR enabled as without... just cause the movement of the head in the cockpit surely.

I tried to fly a few times in an OP I sometimes put to practice called "Occupy The Livingroom"...

I flew on my Panasonic HD ready plasma TV, and even on 720p resolution the speed the image moves compared to an LCD monitor is incredible... the ground targets on a 600Hz plasma screen are crisp and visible, not blurry like the slow LCD technology displays when you play at the computer...

If only I could manage to spare for an extra FULL-HD plasma for my simming...

Yesterday I found a really good site with TV reviews, and every review has a statement for the TV model about ghosting and lag... Here goes:

So, one would need a Full-HD LED or plasma TV with negligible input lag and little to no ghosting to call it a gamers dream come true... :smartass:

No, I wouldn't expect it to look nearly as sharp as a 24". It's like digital zoom on a camera. :)

I'm going to experiment with it. If I put it on the back of my computer table as far as it will go, the viewing distance should probably be about 3-4'. I might be willing to sacrifice a little crispness in the video for the feeling of immersion. I just hope I don't fry my face off or get a tumor.:)

I think the problem come from the monitor you are using, cause put your nose at 40cm of a Plasma, and you will clearly see the problem with sharpness lol .
