blackbelter
I use 3rd Generation Macbook Pro 15 inch to run LO series in Windows XP via Bootcamp. The specs of my computer are Model Name: MacBook Pro Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 2 L2 Cache: 4 MB Memory: 4 GB Bus Speed: 800 MHz Chipset Model: GeForce 8600M GT PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 128 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Currently I can run LOFC2 under Low to Medium quality fairly smoothly (only inspection. I didn't look at FPS). Very occasional jump of frame. Things get worse if there are two many planes. I found a way to connect desktop graphics card via the mPCIe slot built into my computer (vidock, or DIY vidock). But as a newbie, I am not 100% sure if this is gonna work. It could be that, instead of the graphics card, the CPU is limiting the performance. So, what do you guys think? Comment please. Thanks a lot. Kuky
I didn't think this was possible... just how do you connect regular PCIe video card for desktop PC to a laptop? I would never even think of trying this so if it actually works its a first for me No longer active in DCS...

Depth
Even with a decent graphics card you'll still be bottlenecked by the cpu, and as far as I know the cpu is welded into the circuit board. A core i5 laptop with 6 gigs of memory and a pretty good graphics card doesn't cost as much these days, unless you really really want to use Macintosh. Kuky
Search for ViDock, or, even better, for DIY ViDock. You are welcome :D right... I googled it and now I see how it's done but I wouldn't be doing this as you still can't get a high end graphics card as you are limited by the power adapter of the unit ow 90W (as video card needs to draw power from somewhere), and even if you could use a high end video card with this you will be severely limited by the notebook CPU so I wouldn't recommend doing this, you'd be much better of getting a PC for gaming for DCS... so up to you No longer active in DCS... blackbelter
You are of course right... Both of you. Using external graphics card for me is an excellent compromise for the moment. I do not wish to build a full desktop computer right now, but do wish to play LO under better qualities... Thanks for your suggestions anyway. Depth
Socket 1366 is getting cheaper by the minute but note that they are going out of production to give way for the new high end 2011 socket and might become unavailable if you wait too long. Give me a budget and a website and I'll get you some parts :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

But I do know this website http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=5846&review=how+to+upgrade+laptop+graphics+notebook I plan to learn it from scratch. Depth
You should reconsider spending money on an old notebook. As mentioned the cpu is not powerful enough. A computer is only as good as the sum of its parts and this can be compared to putting racing tires on an old rusty pickup truck. You will need a new laptop sooner or later and pouring money on an old one only means you'll have less to spend on the new.
