Page 80 of the flight manual.

"The pod can either be hung on station 2 or 10, and this is often a visible means to identify an A-10C compared to an A-10A in which the pod is hung on station 3 or 9. "

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

A plan a model couldn't carry any TGP.

Current A-10 OEF standard loadout:

Station 1: empty pylon

Station 2: LAU-68/131 rocked pod

Station 3: SUU-25 flare dispenser

Station 4: GBU-12 LGB

Station 5: empty pylon

Station 6: Mk-82 LDGP

Station 7: empty pylon

Station 8: GBU-12 LGB

Station 9: AN/AAQ-28 LITENING AT targeting pod

Station 10: LAU-68/131 rocked pod

Station 11: empty pylon

What gives?

He means the original A-10A could not carry a TGP. An upgraded version of the A-10A, called the A-10A+, was sort of an interim upgrade to the A-10A while the A-10C was just starting to be fielded (I could be wrong on details, but I think this is close). Anyway, the A-10A+ could carry a TGP.

A quick search came up with this article about the A-10A+ program: http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/kicked-up-hogs-the-a-10a-program-04217/
