Thanks guys for the helpful info. Dropped my first successful GBU-81, GBU-12, and fired on multiple tanks yestarday.

 

Q. How do you utilize the <Pavepenny?> pod on the A-10?

The Pave Penny sensor functions were used on The A-10A and have now (on the A-10C) been largely replaced by the Targeting Pod. Pave Penny is not modelled in the current A-10C sim - everything (like finding laser designated targets etc.) is done with the TGP.

I haven't flown the sim yet. I have a million war stories. How about the time the gun blew up under my butt. Thank God for the bathtub!

There is reference to the Pave penny in the manual to do with the HUD displays. from memory something about the pavepenny line heading towards the TISL spider???

I can not recall seeing it in the sim though? is that aspect still used at all??

No, not modelled in the sim. The Pave Penny pod is not fitted on A-10Cs in real life anymore, many sqns are even removing the pylon.
