SDD64 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Yes, this questions might appear rather silly ;-) When do I know that a mission is done? I am still learning this game and so I mostly play quick and easy missions like "Sitting Ducks" or the easy Quick-Mission. Lets take that quick mission: after destroying the convoy at Waypoint 6, the game leads me to the airbase. Am I supposed to land there and then "park" the plane? Does at any point pop up a "mission over" message so I know for sure I can end the mission?
sobek Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 That depends on the mission maker. The campaign missions usually contain a triggered message that tells you when the mission was 100% accomplished. In a more realistic scenario, your score could be tied to how many of the units you are supposed to support survive, etc... Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
SDD64 Posted January 16, 2012 Author Posted January 16, 2012 I see, thank you. How about these quick missons?
MeerCaT Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 It's a good point that I've been meaning to raise myself. When the victory condition is triggered I know that a small "Mission Succeeded" message pops up for a short time in the top centre part of the screen. However, I do not know of anywhere you can refer to in game to view the current status of the mission progress (in-progress/succeeded/failed). In the heat of action it is very easy for that little message to go unnoticed when you have your face buried in the TGP display seeking out targets, or navigating through the 107th system page on the CDU, or trying to fish out half a falafel sandwich from under your right pedal that you dropped during that last "SAM inbound! Engaging defensive!" manoeuvre. In Black Shark 1 I remember the 'View Briefing' command would display a simple text box indicating mission progress as percentage complete. But no such indicator, as far as I know, exists in Black Shark 2 or A-10C Warthog. This would be especially useful for those times when your friendly AI comrades inadvertantly completed your mission goals before you had even finished suiting, booting and getting your bird to the party; and then proceed to spend the next 45 mins searching for your target bridge, wondering why you can't seem to find it amongst all these broken bits of bridge the enemy must have cunningly left lying around to throw you off the scent and thwart your dastardly plans. ... ohhhh wait.
nomdeplume Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 The ' key (apostrophe) will open the score dialog in-game, and you can score both your score and the mission result. The score is just based on the number and type of kills you have (same as MP scoring), the mission result is the score assigned by the mission creator and therefore anything higher than 50 means you've 'won' the mission.
roob Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 What nomdeplume said. You don't have to land the plane, unless you're playing a mission where it's a goal (like the training mission). :) My DCS stream [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Past broadcasts, Highlights Currently too much to do... But watch and (maybe) learn something :)
SDD64 Posted January 17, 2012 Author Posted January 17, 2012 That is good to know. It was always very sad to end a nicely done mission with a crash landing ;-(
roob Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 You'll get that nice landing eventually :) My DCS stream [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Past broadcasts, Highlights Currently too much to do... But watch and (maybe) learn something :)
Praetorx Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 It feels weird to end a mission in mid air though, I always attempt to land and taxi to a parking area
