repsol Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Hello.. I'm currently working on a night mission. As part of the anti-aircraft threat i would like to include some MANPADS but i can not make them open fire on me. Do they not work in the dark ? Time is 23.00 :pilotfly:
hassata Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 RL, I think that's accurate for the Igla (as opposed to the Igla-S). [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
repsol Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 Hello, Hassata Ok...I will try the Igla-S and see how that works. Thanks
repsol Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 Nope ! The Igla-S do not fire either...
winz Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 IRL you have to aim the manpad visualy at the target for it to lock onto it, which might be problematic in the dark ;) The Valley A-10C Version Revanche for FC 3
Eddie Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Yep, if you can't see it, you can't shoot it. MANPADS don't have RADAR or night vision systems and therefore they can't engage targets at night.
repsol Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 Yes thats what i suspected to be the case...I just thought that if you could hear the aircraft and point the weapon in that general direction you would be able to pick up a heat source from it and engage it. Not the case though... Thats ok...I will use some other enemy units to pose a threath to my night flying. Thanks guys
hassata Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Don't know if it's accurate, but this site attributes an IR image device to the S variant for night fire capabilities. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Migow Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Don't know if it's accurate, but this site attributes an IR image device to the S variant for night fire capabilities. there is flir camera on the launcher (night variant irl) if i remember but 3d model doesn't model the flir in dcs so let assume it 's day version in dcs member of 06 MHR / FENNEC Mi-24P
GGTharos Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Try the Strela, and if you don't mind some radar guided doodads, SA-19's are also good. Nope ! The Igla-S do not fire either... Speed Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 If you leave your "shoot me" lights on, will they fire at you in the dark? I've always wondered. repsol Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 Try the Strela, and if you don't mind some radar guided doodads, SA-19's are also good. The Strela works...Thanks :pilotfly:
