Have you guys seen these gauges

I sent an email to Simmeter asking a few questions about their gauges... in hopes that they will do more for the A-10 (so we don't have to mix and match). Here's my email, followed by the reply... which was sent within a few hours.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am very interested in your gauges for DCS A-10C as I am in the process of building a pit. I do have a few questions. Firstly, your digital/analog altimeter looks different in the picture as the video. Which one is the finished product? I see that you have an HSI of sorts without course/heading and ILS information. Will there be one made in the future?

My last question deals with the rest of the A-10 gauges. There are quite a few of us building cockpits and would very much like to have real working gauges. Is there a plan to further build gauges for the A-10, such as Airspeed, 12 engine/APU gauges, and fuel/Hyd gauges? I believe doing the engine gauges together as a pack would be good, however giving the option for singles might work too. I understand the production would be costly for all of those gauges would be high, but there are plenty wanting to buy. I think even a wet compass for the canopy rail would be great. One last question, is if it's at all possible to use a different bezel for the VVI, one that matches the A-10.

Thank you for your time and making these awesome gauges. I can't wait to purchase them, especially if you make a full A-10 set!

Sincerely,

Hello,

1) The final product altimeter is the shop version you are right the youtube video are a prototype.

2) We are finishing a Rendered PFD and HSI suitable for DCS A10C with two additional pointer bearing 1 and bearing 2, this will be released with a 7" TFT USB display soon.

3) The Airspeed gauge are under Airspeed Indicator these version does not incorporate sub dial indicator, probably we sell only this version.

4) You see the future ;), we are now testing the complete instrument cluster and accelerometer, etc at soon we have a complete pack of instruments and the Engine cluster will be a pack.

5) When you see the instruments at your hands don't not appreciate difference between real bezel and this bezels, really nice bezels on alloy here....

Best Regards

interesting response...

Yep, looks like they already have a somewhat close Airspeed, VVI, and Altimeter. Once the Engine cluster is done and a possible HSI/ADI set is done, the only thing left is the Fuel. I just sent another email about the HSI/ADI and Fuel, so we'll see...

It would be great to get all of these, but, well, figuring the prices so far with the 3, that's around 550€ ($790) according to the site. Add in the rest, and man this really is a super expensive hobby! hehe:thumbup:

It still sounds like they're talking about virtual (rendered, TFT) instrumentation ... I don't see the appeal of this over HELIOS (free).

If they had plug-and-play hardware gauges, maybe that would be interesting ... but it seems like their products would be overly expensive and not straightforward to use at all with DCS. I could be wrong, but that's how I'm reading it.

helios isnt hardware its software for driving monitors, not gauges as i understand it but sim meters do claim their stuff works with dcs software..

and i have seen some of their stuff in use on youtube... if they can make more gauges as others have mentioned i think its a neat product versus a flat screen fake gauge...

Helios can control Phidget Stepper and Servo controller boards and be used to drive real gauges. It will get more functionality like that over time.

The simmeters stuff requires the equivalent of Helios to run in addition to it's hardware as well. It's called their Workspace and Data Wrappers.

From simmeters, I think the only thing virtual in a gauge would be an eADI/eHSI. The rest is working gauges, not virtual images as what Helios uses. I'm all for Helios as I use it daily, but if they figured out a way to make physical gauges which they are selling, then I'm good for it.

I m not so sure:

Is not what you want and i understand that, but i wonder if the gain is worth a 1000,00 EU, really.

i realize that may be cheaper and easier implemented but look at it, its blinding as hell.. and i'd be more interested in being able to reach out and adjust that vor or altimeter etc in my hand... thanks for the info though

if someone has more info on using helios to control servos/stepper motors for gauge control i'd be interested...

Go to the scsimulations forum and make a post. Gadroc has a video of VSI he made and it's driven by a stepper and Helios.

As far as I can tell, the only physical gauges offered by Simmeters are 6 versions of altimeter, 6 airspeed indicators, 1 very simple heading dial, and 7 vertical velocity indicators. The rest of it (including their selection of "bezels", is virtual stuff to be rendered on a monitor. 150 euro for the cheapest physical gauge.

10 euro for the base software, +9 for the DCS data wrapper, + (around) 6 per virtual gauge ...

I'm not trying to hate on Simmeters, but please pay attention to what you're looking at when browsing their offerings. MOST of their stuff is virtual instrumentation.
