Riley Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Hey guys so I just got DCS A-10 off steam and I am having terrible performance issues.:helpsmilie: I can navigate through all of the menus and stuff but when I go to select a mission whether its training, campaign or quick mission it takes about 5 minutes to load every single time with the bar at the bottom saying please wait for the whole 5 minutes. During this time period I have the yellow cross hair on my loading screen and I can move it around but I am still looking at the loading screen. Then when I finally get into game my game is basically unplayable. The screen is just freezing for about 30sec and then goes back to normal for about 5 sec and then goes back to freezing. No matter what settings I am running this happens to me. Please Help! Specs: Win7 64-bit ATI RadionHD 5870 Intel Core i7CPU 6GB of RAM
Username455 Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 the long loading is normal, unless you have a SSD. I would also recommend using the cd key from steam and downloading the newest version (1.1.1.1) from the ED website directly. perhaps a reinstall will help with the stutter. Otherwise, others should be able to offer suggestions System: i7 920 @3.8ghz; GTX 560ti 448; 6gb DDR3 1600 ram; 750gb HDD; 750w PSU; Win7 64bit; x52 Pro; TrackIR 5
mvsgas Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 It is normal for the first time to take about 5 to 10 minutes. This will not happen after initial play. The Sim is creating a temp file on you app data folder and this can take time ( depending on you disk drive writing speed) To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
PeterP Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Please post also your ingame settings you use - so we have the whole picture and can help you better what to tweak to get a better performance. and you should always defrag the installation drive after installing - unless you have a ssd.

Riley Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 O also I have already tried downloading from the website last night and putting in my CD key but I still have the same issues.
Depth Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Welcome :) Sorry to hear you're having problems, have you updated the drivers for graphics and soundcard recently? Navigate to C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS Warthog\ There should be a .crash file, it would help the support team if you attached this file to a post along with a DxDiag information text. Just trying to help...;) I didn't asked for your exact settings without a reason in the first place. Edited February 9, 2012 by PeterP

Ok thanks, I have turned of SO in CCC and I willl go try it out. I am running the game in fullscreen.
PeterP Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 (edited) and while you are on it: TSSAA and "mirrors on" can be also a big resource eater. - also try cockpit displays at 256 and no need to have x16 MSSAA at a full HD screen - try x4 as a start. Edit: and BTW - the newest graphic driver are not always the best option for a old card... Switching back helped me often to increase graphic performance and compatibility to a DX9 application - like DCS. also switch of every background tasking - like antiviurus (I think that's the culprit why your first start took so long ) and other programs while running DCS - DCS needs every CPU cycle that is possible to run smooth. SimFreak Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I have Kasperski and if I do not pause protection, it can take up to 10 minutes to just load menu. FYI.
cichlidfan Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I have Kasperski and if I do not pause protection, it can take up to 10 minutes to just load menu. FYI. You can exclude files and folders from being checked in Kapersky. I can't picture the screen right now but it is not to hard to locate. That way you can just leave it running and not have to remember to restart it. Lane Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 (edited) Be sure to set Anti Aliasing setting in CCC to " controlled by Applications ".. or you will get real problem of performance ( like if you have 2fps and pause between them of 5-10sec ) .... ( it make a conflict with the AA of the game ).. Set AA quality to MSAA, be sure the Adaptative/transparency and SSAA or MLAA are not checked. ( use TSSAA in game setting for transparency. ) I can bet this is what you have experience or your Antivirus give problem.. you can leave AF to 16x in the catalyst or set it as appliccations controlled. with a single AMD 5870 i was able to get decent and smooth fps with thoses setting. ( with modded ground textures HQ + view distance, who are the same setting i use right now ) I use 4x or 8x MSAA set in game. for be honest i have not really test with higher. I have not test the 12.1 driver with the 5870's, but 11.12 was working fine.
