cheap charlie Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 If you are only using one pc in your flight simulator then you are generally running more than one monitor off your graphics card. Different sims provide different ways to display gauges etc on the second/third/fourth display. Thats how it's done on the ED games, for other games like FSX there are other ways which allow you to get more performance, e.g. different computers running different displays for the same aircraft views and instruments. The way I will set it up is with high res laptop on a laptop stand perfectly positioned for reading instruments and have the projector running at the same time. rather than have the 2 images the same it would be nice to have just the instruments on the laptop Some pracitical pointers would be appreciated as Im not getting much luck searching
metalnwood Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 If you want to do it for dcs a10 then one option is helios at http://www.scsimulations.com a10 wont expoert all the gauges to a second screen so you need another program like helios to render it's own set on the other screen. It talks to a10 to keep the gauges in sync.

cheap charlie Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 (edited) I was strolling around today and past a TV place that had some projectors set up. One in particular stood out with the projector ony 6ft away and a stunning clarity so I bought it on a whim . Well actually I have been toying with the idea for 6 months or so. BenQ MX613ST DLP "short throw" Projector..3d ready and 1024 x 728 res. now I really will need a reason to leave the house The projector arrived today and here is a quick review. i will try to write without getting excited but to be frank its hard not to be the experience was simply jaw dropping. What i was expecting was a big screen experience with perhaps some detail lacking with instrumentation close up and as i mentioned a few posts back I was happy with that and would use my high res lap top as a second screen. WRONG! The image is cyrstal clear and the 5000:1 contrast gives a ton of light maybe a bit to much for a dark room and handles normal afternoon light at home easy. Everything is razor sharp including the dials and numbers so my second screen for the instruments is not necessary. The picture quality I was not expecting so very pleased about that although I havnt tested it on the A10 but FSX and its array of bright colors is made for this projector. What is freaky is the distance from the screen, using a tape measure 6 feet completely filled the 100" inch screen which was ideal for in your face total immersion. the unit cost $700 inc tripod screen. HitchHikingFlatlander Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Even on my old Infocus proj. with 1024x768 res I obtained a crystal clear picture. So long as you stay away from the cheap models (Walmart anyone?) you should be OK. Obviously you are ok but for those sitting on the fence...... http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
metalnwood Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 The goal for you now is to never look at a setup that costs a few times more. This is something I wish I had never done. I can now see the faults in all the equipment I have ever had and only another 5-10k grand will solve that. Then god help me if I see a better setup as will will notice the problems in my own that I never did before! Thats excellent that it's working well for you. A lot of issues that projectors have is forgiven by the sheer immersion that can be gained by the size of the screen. I just wish that a10 had a zoom level that was independent of the cockpit view, so that you could get a lifelike sized pit but the fov actually matched what was projected.
Haggart Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 But one problem I see no solution mentioned before here - how do we disable the 3d cockpit at the point we do have a complete "analogue cockpit"? Did someone find a possibility here beside playing with the FOV? There's no "Overkill". There's only "open fire!" and "time to reload". Did someone find a possibility here beside playing with the FOV? As far as I know there is no way. You either go in to the hud view where there will not be a cockpit but there will be a giant hud or there is a mod/hack around to remove a lot of the cockpit it it didnt work perfectly when I tried it some time ago.

Haggart Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 ALT-F1 First, that works only in DCS2, not in LOMAC. Second, it just gives me not a only-forward-view display, but only a view with HUD, ABRIS and Shkval-scope. There's no "Overkill". There's only "open fire!" and "time to reload".
