Vekkinho Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Well I don't see the hook beng extended. On the other hand BlueRidgeDx says the runway has no barrier which is strange 'cause during an airshow landing the F-16C loaded with external Fuel tanks and travelling pods proved to be tricky. That's one serious safety regulation omission you got there. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
mvsgas Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 What page does it say that it need a arresting cable? To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
aaron886 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 None? AFAIK, military display teams make individual requests for equipment, including arresting gear.
BlueRidgeDx Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 BlueRidgeDx, That one plus another. What do you mean about the F117? The airshow I mentioned was held at a civilian airport with a 10,900ft runway but no barrier. Wright-Patterson AFB which is 5 miles away has a 12,600ft runway with BAK-12's on each end. Most DoD assets would participate (i.e. land at Dayton) despite the lack of a barrier. The F-117, on the other hand, would only land if a temporary/mobile barrier was installed. Thus, the airshow always had WPAFB come out and install a barrier. If I recall correctly, the only aircraft that specifically REQUIRED a barrier to be installed was the F-117. 1 "They've got us surrounded again - those poor bastards!" - Lt. Col. Creighton Abrams

Kenan Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 (edited) I think the reason for the crash is obvious: lots of people, vehicles and objects around runway - he must have gotten a terrible framerate hit upon touchdown, stutters and lag and before he knew it, he was on the grass. I must say the fog and dense (volumetric?) clouds didn't really help things either + plus all those spectators around runway taking screenshots by hitting PrntScrn. All in all, considering the circumstances, he made a fine landing, although I'm not quite sure how he managed to leave the cockpit without ejecting? Not to mention, he might not have installed the 'Remove Cloud Shadows' mod and had visual artefacts on his horizon. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
