ShuRugal Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 I would really like to get a set of pedals for use with BlackShark, but everything on the market is ungodly expensive. I just can't bring myself to pay more for a single channel of input than the cost of an entire HOTAS system, new or used. are there any inexpensive rudder pedals on the market? I'd be willing to spend up to $50 total, but i'd have to call that a hard ceiling, there is no way in hell i'm paying more than that for some plastic, some springs, one potentiometer, and a USB interface. thanks
159th_Viper Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Below $50? At that price the best you'd do will be the Z and X keys on an alternative keyboard, jerry-rigged to a toe-adapter of sorts that you can slip your big toes into prior to flying for rudimentary rudder-input :joystick: Edit: Hang about, search for Saitek Pro Flight Cessna Rudder Pedals. Have seen places where they go for under $50 a set. Alternatively, there is E-Bay where a deal could be found at the risk of second-hand cooties. EtherealN Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 50 dollars will make it hard. You probably won't get below this price (which is the one I use): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826102003 However, it's not "some plastic, some springs, one potentiometer, and a USB interface". It's plastic, sure, but it's rudder axis and one axis each on the pedals for your toebrakes. Easily worth it and IMO critical equipment for good control of the Black Shark. (Won't use the toebrakes there, but they're on the other hand extremely nice for ground handling of fixed-wings.) CH appears to have a cheaper version of theirs at ~70 dollars: http://www.chproducts.com/shop/Yokes_Wheels.html I'm not sure what I feel about that specific set though. Used a CH set for the simulator parts of my certification, and the narrow arm caused me to feel like I lost a lot of my precision. There appears to be used kit up on ebay as well if that's an acceptable venue for you: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=Pro+Flight+Rudder&_sacat=0 Basically though, I'd say you should think of the price regarding what it'll actually do for your flight experience, and rudders are IMO almost as big of a deal as a TrackIR. Suchacz Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I'm using pedals from an old USB steering wheel :music_whistling: Costed me ten beers  Per aspera ad astra!
