DCSpksky Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 I have LOMAC Gold which came with two cds. There is the basic Lock On installation and the second disc installs 1.1 and so the sticky troubleshooting post at the top of the forum here does not apply. When I try to start up Flaming Cliffs, 1.1, after installing disc 2, StarProtect locks up my system for about 4 minutes while it examines disc 2 still in the drive and then explains, "Failed to identify the disc in drive. Insert a licensed disc." Trying to insert disc 1 doesn't work, if I hit the "Retry" button, it asks, "Enter a disc key for the disc labelled EVL0000412" which is the name of disc 2. There is no registration key anywhere that came with the package. I should say that after installing the basic Lock On from disc one, it starts up with no problem. How do I fix this? What is going wrong? I've the seen the wiki, posted request for support at DCS, ... nothing.
golfsierra2 Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 To me, this looks like a corrupt CD. I recommend to go back to the dealer and ask for another copy. The STARFORCE protection of FC1.1 requires the CD to be in the drive for the first run. After that, it will ask about once a week for the disk. An alternative is the DL version of FC, which comes with some activation keys (through your online account after registration). I'm using that for some years now and it works flawlessly. 1 kind regards, Raven.... [sigpic]http://www.crc-mindreader.de/CRT/images/Birds2011.gif[/sigpic]

Would I have to pay for the download version? I don't see where I should have to pay for this twice. This is an original lithographed CD, it is not a burned copy. It's not from DCS, but Evolved Games. Should I expect a reply from the User Support ticket page? It's strange, I had this once installed a long time ago and I remember it was a struggle to install it, but eventually Flaming Cliffs 1.1 was running OK. I also tried installing the patch, and that didn't make any difference either. I suppose I'll try it again.
DCSpksky Posted March 31, 2012 Author Posted March 31, 2012 I just checked and here is the download link at LOMAC: http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?scr=products&end_pos=135 This download page is not to be confused with the E-shop. To all appearances, these downloads are free and so the disc upgrade that I am trying to install is pointless. If anyone else has LOMAC Gold, I would say forget about disc 2 and get the free download. In fact, it looks like Flaming Cliffs 2 is also free. The only thing you will probably have to pay for is the original LOMAC. If you were to purchase LOMAC Flaming Cliffs 2, you would probably get the original LOMAC and the upgrade on a second disc. Thanks golfsierra2 for your post.
cichlidfan Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 The downloads are 'free' but the license to activate them is not. So if you do not have a key for Flaming Cliffs 2 then you will not be able to activate the product. 1 ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! DCSpksky Posted March 31, 2012 Author Posted March 31, 2012 Still nothing The downloads are 'free' but the license to activate them is not. So if you do not have a key for Flaming Cliffs 2 then you will not be able to activate the product. Yes, I'm just finding that out. The download is free. Go ahead and sit for about a half an hour and download it, free of charge. However, once you install it StarProtect is back in business asking you questions and preventing you from starting up the program. Once again, you go through the loops where you are asked for input and you haven't the slightest clue as to what they asking for. Nowhere at the download site is it explained what to do next. The support links provided provide no clues either. I was able to get a serial number, but the hardware number that is suppose to come "next" didn't and there are no clues as to what to do if is doesn't come "next". So I'm back where I started from. I already bought 1.1 when I bought LOMAC Gold. Now I guess I'm supposed to buy it again, but I've already installed it and I don't even have a clue as to how I'm supposed to buy it even if that's what I'm going to do. I already bought it once, whose to say I'm not going to have to go through all this again? Here's the score so far: Time spent trying to install this software: 5 hours Time spent flying LOMAC: 0 hours So what do I do next? Anyone?

Thanks for posting. I'm running XP Pro and will be for the foreseeable future. Basically, I want to get what's coming to me. I've got LOMAC Gold, the two disc set and that's supposed to include, I guess, Flaming Cliffs 1.1. No doubt 1.12a/b is a patch and I'm sure the patch is free, so once I'm up to 1.1, I can patch it up to 1.12a/b. But if I can get completely current to LOMAC Flaming Cliffs 2 without buying anything else, I'm game for that too. Any assistance would be appreciated.

OK - that sorts out the Win-7 compatibility issue, and yeah, you are correct iro the patch. Regarding the installation-issue, I would advise that you uninstall everything pertaining to LockOn, manually delete all leftover folders and clear the registry of all entries pertaining to Eagle Dynamics. Reboot and install Lockon (Disc #1). After install, run SIM to verify integrity of install. If OK, insert disc #2 and hit the 'install' tab when prompted. If you still run into issues as explained in your first post then it would be indicative of a bad disc I'm afraid. There were issues experienced when first released of bad discs which were subsequently replaced by suppliers - I'm afraid it might be a wee bitty late at this stage to get a replacement. As an aside, did you say that you had Flaming Cliffs 1.1 installed previously from these discs? But if I can get completely current to LOMAC Flaming Cliffs 2 without buying anything else, I'm game for that too.... Flaming Cliffs 2 is a seperate product so would necessitate a purchase I'm afraid. A wee bit of backround - Licencing issues pertaining to the product further necessitates a 'LOMAC check', ie Disc #1 of LockOn Gold prior to LockOn Flaming Cliffs 2 being installed so LockOn Gold is still necessary at first install of FC2. Can however be uninstalled in it's entirety after FC2 is installed. 1 Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Click me to commence your Journey of Pillage and Plunder! I did get a prompt once from StarProtect telling me the installation of disc 2 was successful in my recent attempts. I wouldn't require a replacement. I could send disc 2 in or the whole package and they could give me credit or a key or whatever it takes to install what I bought. I do get a prompt sometimes asking for a disc key. Maybe they could get me that if one exists. I was running the sim for a while a few years ago. I seem to remember that it finally installed, but I couldn't be sure. Maybe I was just running the basic LOMAC.
159th_Viper Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 What is SIM? I did get a prompt once from StarProtect telling me the installation of disc 2 was successful in my recent attempts. I do not think that ED/TFC can assist in that regard - I could however be mistaken so don't take my word for it. Maybe I was just running the basic LOMAC. Quite possibly. OK, sure, after I installed the first disc, I ran the sim and the basic installation runs fine, so I got some kind LOMAC going, just not Flaming Cliffs. Who is the publisher? I have no record of who the retailer was. At this point I consider the problem suspended, but not solved. If anyone else has anything to add, please do. I'll keep posting if anything new develops. Still nothing on my request for tech support ticket. Is anyone there?

DCSpksky Posted April 26, 2012 Author Posted April 26, 2012 Still not working yet. Progress report. I worked back and forth with customer support for a while and they finally passed me off to StarForce because they decided it was a copy protection problem. I worked back and forth with StarForce customer support until they gave me a key that managed to start LOMAC 1.1 up. But LOMAC is crashing now with an error: "Runtime error Program ... .exe abnormal program termination" But since this is an application problem, they have referred me back to DCS. DCS support has had me do a few things and I am waiting to hear back from them.
Alfa Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 (edited) Hi DCSpksky, "Lockon Gold" was published by a company called "Evolved Games"(not Ubisoft). http://www.evolvedgames.com/lockon.htm There were some issues with a faulty second disc on the initial batch of "Lockon Gold" - as far as I remember the problem was exactly that the Starforce protection system asked for an activation key, IIRC because the second expansion disc had incorrectly been printed with the download version of 1.1 Flaming Cliffs(which requires an activation key). From your description it sounds to me like you may unfortunately have one of those faulty discs. Edited April 27, 2012 by Alfa JJ
