Stealthbird97 Posted April 18, 2012 Author Posted April 18, 2012 And although there might be games where dedicated server is free of charge, I doubt it will be the case of DCS. And honestly, I do not care (if the price for dedi-server license do not exceed let's say $100). But I think dedicated server would definitely boost selling numbers for the whole DCS-serie and make it more popular... It should be free like all other games. I don't know anyone who would pay for a Dedicated server program unless they were buying "exclusive rights" to run the server application like the game hosting company did with Battlefield 3, which is the worst idea ever because people like me have invested £100 in buying a server specificity for that reason, why would i want to pay more for it. I agree with your point about it boosting sales, But only if it was free. No-one would buy the game if they had to buy the dedicated server as an extra when it should have been made in the first place. Come to think off it it would be cheaper to just buy the game again and run it on the server 24/7 using the normal in client multiplayer server. Think about why should you pay for less!

Only the one who wants to run dedicated server would buy it. This would probably be groups of players (i.e. virtual squadrons) sharing additional costs for one common dedi-server license. And concerning "one more game license" wersus "dedicated server", I'd expect dedi-server to be more suitable to run as server (hardware resources, stability, security, command-line only, for linux, etc.). I would sure pay for true dedi-server even twice more than for one more common client license...

daribouca Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 I use Teamviewer and a simple Autoit script to restart it when (not if) it crashes. Here it is if you want to improve it. Thanks a lot for the code ! I was planning of doing approximately the same thing, and you just saved me hours of research  I'm forking the code and will inform you if I find flaws or add interesting functionality.
Panzertard Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I think I should have left the sourcecode in the download here as well, if you're in for some coding. DCS / FC2 Server Monitor (Alpha) The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
daribouca Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I think I should have left the sourcecode in the download here as well, if you're in for some coding. DCS / FC2 Server Monitor (Alpha) I've been using Autoit for years, it's kinda neat when you need a straight .exe quickly. Might I suggest you to open a GitHub repository (free) to host the code? That way anyone would be able to contribute to the code, and you'd have an easier time managing the whole project.
Panzertard Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 You're welcome to do that. I've put my effort in this little snipped to rest for a quite while working on some other projects. If you want to use the code and start a little community project, please feel free to do so. :) The mind is like a parachute.
