DCS Black Shark 2 - Alternate default neutral position?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi everyone! :)

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=583711&postcount=42

Q: Why does the helicopter pitch up?

A: The ground trim setting is used as the default neutral position of the virtual cyclic

Ground trim is somewhat aft of hover trim

Canceling trim in flight will revert the virtual cyclic to its default neutral position and (...) pitch the helicopter up.

Would it be possible to add another 'Cancel Trim' function which will snap to a default 'Hover Trim' rather than default 'Ground trim'?

i.e. 'Alt trim' snaps controls to

Rudders Centred (50%);

Cyclic Roll Centred (50%);

Cyclic Pitch Centred (50%);

Here's a sketch, 'x' represents the Cyclic position shown RightCtrl-Enter

Current 'Reset Trim' preset

Wished for '(alt) Reset trim' preset (As above except Cyclic Pitch 50%)

I would hope this is not awkward for the programmers :book: and would greatly help new fliers like myself

Thank you,

:)Interesting first posting!:)

Sorry, ..but it seems you don't understand why you have to trim at all...

(and there is nothing like a "neutral position" in a dynamic system)

...and also sorry if this sound a little harsh for you - read further and I'm sure you will understand.

"Neutral" in this context you have quoted means that the helicopter will hold its place at the (even-)ground, and will not start to roll in any direction.

...

Lets assume that there is no wind at all - and you fly in a ideal static world where the pitch of your rotors are working with the same force at every flight-level....

But to keep it not too simple we let your fuel-load and weapon-load have an effect on your flight-model...

Now try to imagine what would happen if you have this "fixed" hover-trim applied with a symmetric-load and a asymmetric-load (lets say you have no more rockets at your left side and/or your rear-fuel tank is empty).

....

Got it now?!

Good!

:smilewink:Now please start reading the manual and also this articles:

Welcome Aboard !

(edit - as I said : very interesting idea ! -and don't feel ashamed because it isn't working.

I had very similar "brilliant" Ideas as I started to fly this simulation!;))

If the real bird had it... Sure.

Unfortunately, it doesn't. :)

(What trim in the real thing does is adjust a set of springs that balance your cyclic and pedals - mechanical springs. These can only have one neutral position, which is set to mirror ground trim since that's really the only place you would ever use a "neutral" trim.)

Thanks for the replies gentlemen :thumbup:

Ah, but it does :P Well, the pilot does :smilewink: that's what I'm tryin to replicate

Consider this: Whatever the trim setting in the Real A/C, the pilot can instinctively and immediately return the Cyclic straight up and centred

I wish for a button to do the same :thumbup: so that, whatever my trimmed state, immediately my (nonFFB) joystick position is reflected by the simulated cyclic, which helps when recovering from aerodynamic states which may or may not have been self-inflicted :music_whistling:

This is partially achieved using the 'Reset Trim' key, however that also adds the back cyclic pressure which I can do without.

Im summary, I'm not looking for an 'Ultra-Auto-Hover' cheat, but an input which removes all trim and returns the virtual cyclic to straight up and centre when my actual joystick is staight up and centre (or whatever my actual joystick position happens to be)

Thank you,

It already exists. The ground neutral position as commanded by trim reset is stick centered. It just happens to be the case that stick centre and the position required to maintain a hover are not the same, both in sim and in reality.

Hi Eddie!

So let me get this right in my head... in the real Ka50, when the cyclic is centred in both axes, that's ground neutral? :cry:

Of course it is.

There's no such thing as a "neutral" in a helicopter that is anywhere other than on the ground.

Before I let this lie... :)

Is there a LUA or other file I can edit to tweak where the 'Alt-T' trim places the Cyclic? I'm not above doing a bit of tweaking/hex editting! :prop:

What's the default value in the source, I'll search/replace it in the .EXE! :weight_lift:

I'm serious btw :noexpression:
