Hey Guys,

I was wondering if some of you could give me some advise here please.

A friend of mine recently bought DCS A-10C and we want to how a little fly around together, maybe even some shooting fun.

In order to do this, do I simply create a new server and give him the IP address (external) to connect to?

Or is there over things that I need to do?

Please help, I'm lost! :(

You need to make sure that your router or firewall (dependant on the way you connect your computer to the internet) has the appropriate ports for UDP open, i don't know which ones off the top of my head but i'll try to find them.

Edit: Sorry, i overread you were both on a LAN. You should be fine by just hooking both computers up to a LAN, starting the server on one and connecting with the other via the LAN page on the server browser. Please also note that your LAN must be connected to the internet via a router or gateway so both computers can establish a connection with the master server.

Edit2: On third time reading your post, i think i'm getting mixed signals from you. Are you both hooked up to a local network (LAN) or are you trying to play over Internet (WAN)?

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Sobek, LAN connection is possible over the internet too - the main advantage of this is that you don't have to password the server to keep it private since it will not be advertised by the master server.

The ports to check on firewalls are 10308 - both UDP and TCP. This applies to both LAN and "normal" use.

So, to use the LAN feature, yes, given that there's no hiccups with firewalls and routers (in which case you MiGHT have to set up a port forward on the server machine), what you need is the IP. If both of you are on the same physical LAN, just use the local LAN IP adress. If your friend is not on your own LAN but you want to use LAN connection to keep the server hidden for privacy purposes, you just give him your external IP adress. This is where you are most likely to require a port forward on a router, though most of the time routers are smart enough to figure it out anyhow.

Yea, we're playing over the internet but want to keep it private (not on the same LAN, apologizes, should of made it more clear).

I'll check to make sure that port forwarding is enabled on our routers.

EtherealN, assuming that PF has been enabled, should I just create a new game and give him my external IP address? or do we still how to use one of the servers?

Just take your external IP and give that to him, and have him connect to it - for example 123.123.123.123:10308 - and then start your game through the multiplayer interface as server.

EDIT:

Sorry, wrote that in a confusing way:

1) Check your external IP. Give this to your friend.

2) Start the server.

3) Once server has finished loading, tell him to connect through the LAN interface.

An option would be to simply password your game through the server interface and give him the password, which lets you use the "internet" server option without risk of having uninvited people on your server.

Thanks. I'm currently far away from my computer and couldn't double-check the exact language in the interface. :)
