cagrimes Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 My controller is a Thrustmaster T16000M and I would like to have the hat remain as my 4-WAY VIEWS and set up the Modifier to also us the hat as the Target Slew. If any had success in doing this could you please help. Thanks cagrimes
statrekmike Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 First of all, I am going to tell you that you should probably try to score a used X-45 or X-52 off ebay if you wanna really unlock your potential in this sim, you can probably find them for anywhere between $35 to $60 and having a good HOTAS is almost essential in this sim. On a related note, don't feel pressure to get a Thrustmaster warthog, I know this forum is full of folks who will tell you that you NEED one, frankly that is false, I am able to play A-10 without any issues (and almost never touching the keyboard) with my X-46. Okay, now on to your question. When I started playing this sim, I just had a Microsoft precision pro so I had to bind shift keys for every hat switch function on to my one and only hat, I was able to do this by setting everything to use a different key (Left shift+POV hat would slew, Left ctrl+POV for CMS) so that I could access every function on my single hat. This kinda assumes you have some form of headtracking, look into freetrack, the unit is easy and cheap to build and you will pay only a small fraction of the cost of a TrackIR 4 or 5 (again, many will say TrackIR is the ONLY way to go, that is simply false). You can play this sim without spending a bunch of money, but you should try to build a head tracking unit and do try to eventually get a HOTAS.
skouras Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 i'got X52 and the WARTHOG HOTAS and also the COUGAR one true... with X52 you can do everything you want in this sim [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]W10(64bit)Asus Rog Strix Z370-F - i7 8700K - Dark Rock Pro 4 - 16 giga ram Corsair vengeance 3000 - MSI RTX 2070 Super - Asus Rog Phobeus soundcard - Z906 Surround speaker - Track ir5 - HOTAS Warthog

Even this is unnecessary. I use a T flight HOTAS X which is just fine. Back to the original question go into the options menu, controls and then select A-10C Sim. Click add modifier, press the button and click OK. Now go to slew control. Double click joystick column, hold your new modifier and push the hat in the appropriate direction. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

Come on, now - I don't believe that anyone here would make that claim at all. The only "essential kit" I have seen mentioned in this forum is some form of head tracking (and I agree completely). Other than that, a stick or HOTAS that you are comfortable with + modifiers and a clear understanding of how HOTAS commands work in the sim, and you are good to go.
Hamblue Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 I haven't seen anyone say you need the warthog, but it is an awesome stick. The X52 and the X52 pro are excellent sticks as well. I'm sure there are others but I don't have experience with them. :joystick: Asus Sabertooth P67 Motherboard 2600k CPU, 16 gig DDR3, 1600.
