Hey Folks. I'm running BS2 now on the following system:

Core 2 Quad @ 3.0GHz

4GB DDR2 800

Radeon 4870

I know it's not top of the line, but I didn't have issues in BS1, and now I've dropped my resolution from 1680x1050 to 1280x800, seriously chopped my settings (no HDR, no AA, cockpit 512, medium-to-low on most settings) and I'm still getting ~15fps in the GOC missions.

Is there a magic bullet I'm missing?

Do we still need to set core affinity?

What else can I do to get this framerate back to playable?

Thanks in advance =)

i play BS2 with 17, 2670QM 2.2 -turbo to 3.1 GHz , a GTX570M and 8GB of RAM.

When i run BS1 Maxed out i get around 30fps in cockpit and never less than 19, and up to 65 outside. ie perfectly playable

however BS2 (on less then maxed out i only get around 24 in cockpit and frequently drops to 16 or less if theres lots of smoke and bullets etc. and 40-50 outside.

also i get really annoying lags everytime i use a weapon for the first time in a mission. for example the first round i shoot out of my cannon will lag, then any time after that it will be fine,.. same for rockets and ATM.

does anyone know how i can increase my fps without reducing my graphics drastically, or if pehaps there is one graphics setting in the menu that really cost frames that i should turn off/down?

thanks

Terminal Meltdown: It's an older card, yes, but I'd hardly call it crap. Without dating my gaming habits by naming names (like "Bioshock" and "Chaos Theory"), I've had no real problems with recent games, and BS1 still ran pretty slick. Oh, and add Skyrim to that list. On top of that, my impression of DCS is that it's always been CPU bottlenecked.

Plus, looking at the forums, it sounds like people have had many more problems with FPS since the 1.1.1.0 patch.

I'm wondering if a) there's a bug causing this that hasn't been fixed yet and b) if there's a solution other than a new mobo+CPU.

Without really knowing anything, I'd wait for the DCS:World "Compatibility Patch" (name it as you see fit ;)) for BS2 and WH. I hope it will be not only released soon but also, due to the changes introduced with DCS:World, fix the performance issues so many of us face. But again, I don't know anything, this is just my personal hope...

(Dual 5770 XFire setup here, found XFire not being used at all resulting in similar FPS figures :()

Plus, I do really like that cockpit interior reflecting on the canopy glass thingy of the Mustang pretty much :)

Take a look at this thread, maybe it can give you some comparable results or pointers that might help.

In general it says: Doesn't matter much what GPU do you have, the main thing is highly overclocked i5 or i7... :music_whistling:

I changed 4870 to Sapphire 7870 OC, but with this powerful shiny new card my fps results rised only (approx.) 25 - 30% Exact results you can see in my first post in thread mentioned above.

My CPU is PhenomII x4 955BE at 3.4 GHz (3,2 stock)

I think that DCS, if not to late already, needs a whole new game engine. with all these modern games that have fantastic efficient engines (frostbite 3, crytec 3 etc) when people go to buy a laptop they do not need to spend more than £1100 approx like i did to play all the latest games, and so its very difficult decision to lash out an extra few hundred on top so you can get a ridiculusly large processor just to run the sims.

take battlefield 3 for example, i can run that on my system without a single hitch, but thou awesome the much lesser graphics of DCS is a real struggle.

I know the reasons for this like most,

so all there is to say is that i strongly feel a new game engine ought to be considered, an engine that utalises all the new quad core technology out there as well as taking off some of the load from the processor and letting the graphics card join in.

If only!!

You're comparing apples and oranges. The differences in scale are as great as they can be between those FPS and a flight sim.

Also the point with the laptops is moot. You go with a desktop if you want to sim/game.
