neroroxxx Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Hi guys, i was curious, is there a place where you can easily get info about ED sims? by that i mean, if i wanna know how to turn the engines on and off, or how to switch to TWS radar and what TWS means and how to use it, even something like how to take off the right way, is there a place like that for new players and players that may not have time to play as often and need to refresh from time to time? The reason i'm asking was because when i came back to flying in FC2 after years of not being able to (because i switched to mac) it took me a long time to learn basics, things that i had to spend hours researching from multiple websites and what not, simple things like how to use TWS, what the AWACS means when it talks to you, or even the tower, simple things. Because of that my thought was "Hey i'm a web developer, i can make a website (free of course) where you can go in and learn all your basics for the game, how to use the weapons, what AWACS is talking about, what TMS and CMS stands for and so on.." I'm totally willing to put the time into this, provide the server, interface and backend (so i can assign a few people to add to it) It would be a fairly big project but as long as i have some input from the community i'd be more that happy to get this project started. neroroxxx Posted May 3, 2012 Author Posted May 3, 2012 Yes! basically that but instead of linking to other sites just have all the data within the same site. I've already started putting info together, hopefully i'll get some more feedback so it can be something that everybody in the community can contribute with. AlphaOneSix Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 It would be nice if everyone would just contribute to the ED Wiki. There was another wiki at one point, and it had a lot of great material, and there was much bally-hoo regarding the fact that it was completely separate from ED. Then one day it went *poof*. ED's wiki is still here, and it will continue ot be here, and anyone can contribute to it. The reason it's sparse now is because not enough people know about it and not enough of those people contribute to it. 1
Bucic Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 (edited) Personally I don't see any disadvantage in the wiki being outside ED site domain. After all if the Wiki is being properly linked to and mentioned often the only minor detail will be it's a different domain which is no culprit. IMO it should even take over the priority of the forums where information tend to be scattered and questions repetitive. I'll even go further. ED should make a use of external sources more often, when the source contain an information clearly laid out. The ED manuals are good example. If 'stall' term comes up, the manual should just contain a link to apropriate chapter of FAA Pilot's Handbook and be done with it. Same for the forums.
