I havent found any relevant info on this, but watching the training missions and reading the manual, it says that I can lift the throttles out of their detents to start the engines after the proper startup procedures. Yet when I do this, nothing happens, and wind up just having to press the RAlt and RCtrl Home keys instead. Am I missing something?

Please excuse this silly question, but it isn't really clear in yours:

Do you lift them only up ?- or do you also place them forward , beyond this dented into the Idle position ?

Further:

Are you using Target for assigning the TM-Warthog, or did you manage everything via DCS ?

Because when you use Target you have to assign everything yourself - also a band in the axis of the throttles to switch the ignition on/off.

Without Target is everything pre-configured via DCS.

Not strictly speaking "everything". Trim hat gets configured to view control and has to be re-configured if you use a headtracker.

Just for the sake of completeness. :)

To answer your question Hitman, if you move the throttles forward and nothing happens, put them back in the detent again and then forward. By default, the cockpit is not synced to the various switch positions on the throttle. The metal switches don't care, but the flaps and the throttles themselves require moving them into their default position after the sim has started in order for them to be recognized in that position.

There's an option in the settings somewhere to sync the cockpit to your throttle (technically stick as well, but we don't have any switches on that which aren't spring loaded) on unpause, and that may fix it if you want to go that way, but I've never actually tried it.

Guess I wasnt clear enough. When Im told to take the throttles from the off position to idle, which requires you to lift the throttles off of the detent, nothing happens. The animation in the cockpit doesnt even show my throttle moving until after I press the ralt rctrl home keys.

Have you tried it twice? Slide them off. If nothing happens, slide them back on and then off again. You should see a response on the in-game throttle.

If nothing still happens, I'd guess either a faulty throttle (unlikely) or a TARGET profile getting in the way (almost as unlikely if you've never run TARGET).

I can move my throttles forward and backwards all day long and no animation is shown until I press those key combinations, and no Im not using the TARGET software since I have no idea how to use it...yet...

than is sure somthing wrong in your profile - Did you reassign the throttle after first start with your TM-warthog attached?

And you really don't have target active?

Possible solution:

Navigate to C:\Users\>your user name<\Saved Games\DCS Warthog\Config\Input\A-10C\joystick

And delete/rename everything warthog related.

Than start DCS again and check if everything is back to defaults.

I usually start out by cycling both throttles all the way to max and then back to off before moving to idle. When you initially move it forward the sim visual won't show it move. It should after returning it back to the off position.

The original settings were set up kinda funky, and I dont recall what the default settings were for them, but I did have to change the throttles to their correct axis, like the left throttle moves the left throttle and so forth, and readjusted the joystick hat switch to use its trim functions.

Ill check this when I get home, but Im pretty sure nothing will happen. Ill report back when I can.

Well, I gave it a shot, and it worked. Had to do it a few times to get it to respond, but it worked. Thanks again!
