cichlidfan Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 (edited) If I create a mission and set the client to runway start, the aircraft ends up on the ramp (even though no parking space was selected) but with the engine running. As I am typing I realize that I have not tried to place the Su-25 but if the client is the P-51D the above happens every time (at Batumi). I even tried altering the Solo Takeoff training mission by just changing it from player to client. All of a sudden you are on the ramp. EDIT: It turns out that the modified Solo Take-off mission begins on the ramp with the engine off. A mission created at Kobuleti (p-51) begins on ramp but engine running. An Su-25 starting at Senaki ended up on the ramp with engine off. cichlidfan Posted May 17, 2012 Author Posted May 17, 2012 Select a different config. Ie. take off from rw. Then re select. I am not entirely sure what you are trying to say but I changed everything about the aircraft location, loadout, etc. then set it back to runway start and I still have an aircraft in a parking space with its engine running at Kobuleti and one without its engine running in a parking space at Batumi. Soulres Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Ramp Start - Start Parked Engines/electrical off need to contact Tower. Take off Runway - Plane ready for Take off just contact tower. sometimes plane parking spots are on the very edge of the runway.
Speed Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Well, in multiplayer, "runway" starts are always supposed to start on the ramp, but with the engine running. At least, that's the way it's always been. You're never supposed to start on the runway, not in multiplayer. This applies to BOTH AI AND human players, and both "player" and "client" slots. Think of the ramifications if people spawned on the runway itself in multiplayer... I even tried altering the Solo Takeoff training mission by just changing it from player to client. All of a sudden you are on the ramp. That shouldn't have been necessary, because players always become clients when the mission is run in multiplayer. In fact, I always have a "client" slot that is in fact a "player" slot, so I can test the mission easily in single player. I have never messed with MP before. I was just trying to take advantage of respawn instead of restarting for take-off practice. It sounds like it will already do what I want then. Thanks. There is still an issue if the engine is supposed to be running if a runway start is selected for a client. I does not work consitently. EDIT: Ah well, still won't do it. I tried starting the SP training mission in MP and it moved the plane to a parking space and the engine was shutdown. Seems like the ME should allow this if there is only one aircraft designated as a runway start, or even two, it is no different than assigning a parking space. I also know how to tell if I am lined up on a runway or in a parking slot. BTW, the tower is not relevant. Could you upload the mission where you had this happen? If this is really happening, a strong suspicion of mine would be that it could be related to the ME not correctly saving the aircraft start type. What happens when DCS GUI is restarted and the mission is reloaded? Does the aircraft you were having a problem with now show "ramp start" instead of "runway start"?
