FBDon Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Now the question is what are my options? I've read about and compared.the trackir5 and trackir4 pro but are there other options out there? And does the trackir5 give a huge advantage over the trackir4, basically is it worth the extra 50 bucks?
dburne Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 (edited) I can't speak to other options, but believe me the Track IR device is well worth it. Probably the best thing I got for flight sims besides my joystick setups. I originally started with the TIR3, then moved up to the TIR4 when it came out, and just recently in the last couple months, moved up to the TIR5. While there is not as big a difference in going to the 5 from the 4, as there was from the 3 to the 4, it is still better - a wider fov and more resolution , to me equates to just smoother operation. Not what I would call a "huge" advantage though. If this ends up being your first Track IR purchase, I would suggest going ahead and getting the latest if you can swing it. Edit: I would also add, with the Track IR5 if you go with the bundle deal, you will get both the hat clip, and the track clip pro - which attaches to a headset, if your one to wear headsets. Some folks prefer the latter. When I updated to the Track IR5, I got the bundle deal even though I normally do not wear a headset. I am currently using the hat clip, but I also have the track clip pro should I ever decide to start wearing a headset. Also a final note - if you order directly from Natural Point - they offer a 30 day money back offer, should you find you do not care for the device. Most folks by far that get one, love them, but I have seen the occasional person that just does not care for it. 112th_Rossi Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I got mine from flightstore.co.uk (if you live in the UK). Fundamental piece of sim hardware if you ask me.
Blarney Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I have to agree with everything said so far. TrackIR5 adds so much in terms of immersion into the flight sim experience that it has become essential in my opinion. No more using a hat switch to direct your view, just simply turn your head. I have the Track Clip Pro as well and I find the response to my head movements are better than just using the standard hat clip. Worth every penny (or locally used monetary unit.) I can further add that customer service at Natural Point is great. I had originally received a track clip pro with a bad wire connection, and would lose connection as I turned my head. I contacted them and they immediately sent me a new one. No questions asked. Great service on a great product. 486DX w/turbo button
