Title says most of it.

While trackir works great for the most part, it seems the "headspace" is quite a bit more limited in moving about inside the cockpit. I can no longer be close to switches and meters to study them. Neither can I lean backwards in the cockpit as far as before (to look at the rigth-hand side and right-back wall switches/meters - Later edit: forget it, it's not the problem). Any way to fix that? Some lua code somewhere maybe? But I'd prefer an official solution sometime.

May be relevant, I have not yet tried any DCS World stuff, I guess that's what the 1.1.2.1 pathces are for? (the "KA-50 module for DCS: World" and "A-10C module for DCS: World")

On a similar issue, I'd want to be able to go just a bit lower inside the A-10C pit as well. I don't really know whats realistic or not as for view positions inside a real cockpit, but as I'm pretty new to this sim I'd like to be able to study the meters in more detail (perhaps I should look into snap views btw.. just a thought just now - but I'd prefer a headtrack solution).

This basically came up after I went on a little shopping spree this night. Even thought I have BS1 on steam (as well as A-10C), I decided to buy the full BS2 :) Partly because of some doubt about the upgrade patch and steam compatibility, but also to eventually just move all DCS games out of Steam. The Steam overlay don't work anyway, except in BS1 (Not that I don't like Steam btw. But with DCS World and all I guess it makes sense to have DCS games elsewhere. And with my own install files). So atm I have both BS1 and BS2 (and A-10C).

Also, I was pleasantly surprised that the nVidia 3D worked again (I could not get it to work at all in BS1, but after a registry edit it worked in A-10C, which I assume also did it for BS2 since it uses the same graphics engine).

Heh, I'm not even sure why I bought it lol, for the moment I'm having too much fun learning to -start- the A-10C! Almost got it biggrin.gif (and flying/landing a bit). Not even got to navigation or done any "real" (well... virtual) missions yet, and as for BS1/2 I have barely touched it. But I do have managed to start it (barely, and of course after watching the training video).

Edit:

Perhaps attach a couple of pictures is better... (to try to explain what I mean by smaller head space, not sure what the terminology would be for that. In short that you can't move your head as much inside BS2 as in BS1. There, should have said it like that in the first place! :P )

Bw I also want to add than nVidia 3D suddenly worked in BS1 also (it didn't do that for me earlier, but I've read it usually does for others but not BS2, not the other way around).

Maybe I should also add that I don't use any camera zoom for trackIR Z axis, just the longitudinal shift. Like this:

th_trackiraxissettings.jpg

Then a couple of comparison shots. Just to clarify; this is as close as I can get to the panels, in BS1 and BS2 respectively.

th_front-rightmonitor.jpg

th_rightpanels.jpg

EDIT: I messed up (again), sorry for the small picture sizes, but at least it's a visible difference.. And my point is that I'd like to be able to move about inside the BS2 cockpit more like BS1, of course.

Hi there,

Had the same issue with BS2. Use the "slow zoom" to adjust the level of zoom. I've mapped the "slow zooms" to my throttle for ease of use.

A10C, I use the seat adjustment to raise and lower my perspective. seem to remember you can't map to this button - real shame - so you have to click on the switch. You can also just recentre (f12) TIR. IF you want to sit low, recentre while you're sitting up. not found this necessary myself. Seat adjustment and zoom does for me.

Enjoy

If you like IFR and the all the buttons to hand then Helios is excellent. if you got the hardware (GPU), 2nd monitor and some patience to figure it all out it can really enhance your experience.

Enjoy

Hello !

I'm suggesting to follow at least the first line of what Robski said.

I've mapped the slow zoom ( num keybapd / and * ) to my Stick with pinkie switch and up down POV button (an example for X52Pro) Left for Shkval Lock view and Right for Zoom re-center.

I never done that before and, hell, it is sooooo useful !

Another option, although i didn't looked in further is to create a new profile in TrackIr and Rise considerably the curves for this axe.

but remember, Zoom button will actually let you clearly see your abris, and the tank located 10km away. TrackIr in-cockpit Z-Axis won't help you outside.

Imo assign a zoom button to your joystick.

What any Sim is lacking is the reduced field of view even with a HD display, compared to any human eye.

IRL i will see and track my leader squad located 200m in his Ka-50 in front of me.

In DCS, i almost always loose him at the first manoever.

Hi there! Thanks for the suggestions! Haven't tried it yet but I'm about to.

No, it's not that I want to sit low, just be able to duck a little lower. Anyway, I don't think this is a big issue.

I'll keep it in mind for later, thanks! I'm not really that advanced yet with the sim, not sure if I ever will be that. Also, I don't have any cockpit setup, but I do have dual monitors on my GTX 470. But I only use one monitor when gaming.

I don't think that will help as the movement is restricted more in BS2 than BS1, or so it seems for me at least.

And cheating by seeing that tank 10 km away with a "built-in" super-zoom-vision wasn't my aim either..

But, I will try out the "slow zoom" thing and see what I can see!

True. On a similar note, I noticed that a few virtual helmet-like displays are beginning to pop up, which I think is a very exciting thing! Imagine that combined with a 1:1 headtracking... :) But, their FOV is really limited for now, compared to the human >180 ish deg horizontal FOV. And when they improve on that, it won't be cheap, I'm sure. For now I guess it's kind of like having tunnel vision.

Btw here's a few I found so far. I haven't really looked lately, but it's a couple of links I have on the subject atm.

Same here bought BS1 when it came out(disk) than got A10c beta an full version from Ed Store, bought P51 an it's tied in with DCS World an now can't do training with it because of bug. So i knew b4 DCS CA came out i was gonna get BS2 istalled without DCS World atm. I have TracIR4 an works fine for me, can't imagine not having it, though it can be a pain sometimes getting setup just the way i want.As far as zoom i just use ingame to zoom in etc.

Hi guys.

I know this is a somewhat old thread but I have the exactly same problem. I use freetrack and it works with BS2 just fine. Except that in x axis (left and right) the movement is really limited. Is this how it suppose to be or there is something wrong with my installation? It is a new installation of DCS World and BS2 was the first module to be installed. I also tried to repair it. Please help.

Hi... I had same problem. So, I set some values and widened limits.

Check ../Config/View/Server.lua file, find the line starts with "limits_6DOF[KA_50]"

My line is:

limits_6DOF[KA_50]   = {x = {-0.20,0.45} ,y = {-0.55,0.175},z = {-0.65,0.65},roll = 90}

Legend: x = backw & forw, y = down & up, z = left & right. :D

P.S.: Please backup the original values first...

Thanks Devrim.

Your suggestion worked! It was the z axis that needed to be fixed. Freetrack sees it as x axis. I now finally have a real 6DOF cockpit. But why on earth go through all the trouble to make a 3d cocpit only to limit it in almost 2d? It really felt like it was a LockOn cockpit. I think devs should look at it.

And a question. Will this make any trouble to multi-playing? Will servers consider it as a hack and not allow it?

Sorry for late answer. I'm not having any trouble in multiplayer missions. Go head.. :)

Editing the Server.lua unfortunately doesn't work for me.

When I edit said values to those of BS1, my cockpit view is bugged.

Not only am I then limited to only 2 axis, looking up-down and left-right.

But in cockpit view I spawn at like 50m AGL.

Switching to external view, the craft stands firmly on the ramp as it should.

This happens to ALL crafts, A-10C, P-51, Ka-50, ... , yet I just edited the values for the Ka-50 in the Server.lua

Switching back to the original file, all is good again.

Do I need to change anything else besides the "limits_6DOF[KA_50]" -line ? ?

Unfortunately I cannot confirm any typo, it already happens when I change just one single character in a 1:1 copy of the original .lua

I feel the file either has a special signature that I'm changing when changing any value.

Or the program has some place where it cross checks the values with and then disagrees on those.

On a side note, all works fine with just the 1:1 copy if I don't change any value.

Still worth a try, thanks for the idea !

EDIT:

Tried again with Notepad++, this seems to be the first file for me, where normal Notepad couldn't do what ++ can.

Problem Solved !
