Pizzicato Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Hey guys, I'm running into a really bizarre problem that I can't seem to figure out. I'm pretty much convinced that it's either user error or a hardware issue, but I can't work out what's going on. Basically, whenever I press the "pickle" button in order to release a bomb in CCRP mode, I'm finding that I'm instantly getting full left or right aileron trim. Sometimes it's to the left and sometimes it's to the right, but it happens every time and makes it impossible to use CCRP. I can't seem to find any conflicts in my control mapping, so I'm at a complete loss. I'm running 1.1.1.1 and using a combination of TM Warthog, TM MFDs, Simped Pro rudders (attached to TM Cougar) and TrackIR 5 Pro. Any help would be hugely appreciated. i7-7700K @ 4.9Ghz | 16Gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz | MSI Z270 Gaming M7 | MSI GeForce GTX 1080ti Gaming X | Win 10 Home | Thrustmaster Warthog | MFG Crosswind pedals | Oculus Rift S
FreeFall Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 (edited) Let's suppose that it is a hardware problem with your TM Stick, and somehow pressing the pickle button causes the activation of Trim Hat as well (because of some sort of hardware malfunction, loose cables or short circut inside the stick or whatever might be the cause.) If you go to your Operating System Control Panel (haven't used Vista, so don't know if it is just like with Windows 7) and open Game Controllers, you should see if the Trim Hat button(s) are activated while pressing pickle button even though you don't touch the Trim Hat at all. Have you tried that kinda test/check yet? EDIT: Are you saying it only happens with CCRP? Then it's a bit more tricky situation... Edited June 3, 2012 by FreeFall question
Pizzicato Posted June 3, 2012 Author Posted June 3, 2012 Thanks for the response, Freefall. It's exactly what you suggested - a hardware problem. Now I just need to figure out to fix it... i7-7700K @ 4.9Ghz | 16Gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz | MSI Z270 Gaming M7 | MSI GeForce GTX 1080ti Gaming X | Win 10 Home | Thrustmaster Warthog | MFG Crosswind pedals | Oculus Rift S
FreeFall Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 (edited) Maybe you'd better contact the Thrustmaster tech support. I have heard they have very good reputation when it comes to customer service. EDIT: Or maybe you should try Firmware Force Update???? Don't know... See this FAQ http://www.warthogworld.com/hangar/showthread.php?49-FAQ HOTAS is experiencing erratic behavior What to do it: Unplug stick and throttle. On throttle, hold down autopilot disengage and landing gear warning silence buttons and plug in USB connector. On joystick, hold down trigger and red S2 weapon release button and plug in USB. Then run firmware update procedure. Also: http://www.warthogworld.com/hangar/showthread.php?167-How-do-I-force-firmware-flash Edited June 3, 2012 by FreeFall added stuff
Pizzicato Posted June 3, 2012 Author Posted June 3, 2012 It's a bit too late for that. Ive now completely screwed it up. :( In my half-assed attempts to fix it, I didn't take enough care with closing the handle and I've accidentally cut two of the wires and now the trigger doesn't work. God damn it... I'm such an idiot sometimes. :( i7-7700K @ 4.9Ghz | 16Gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz | MSI Z270 Gaming M7 | MSI GeForce GTX 1080ti Gaming X | Win 10 Home | Thrustmaster Warthog | MFG Crosswind pedals | Oculus Rift S
FreeFall Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 (edited) Thought about soldering, but after seeing the pics from this site http://www.simhq.com/_technology3/technology_174b.html the wires seem to be rather strained and there is hardly enough room to operate, or is there? Pizzicato Posted June 3, 2012 Author Posted June 3, 2012 There might be enough room for someone who's experienced enough and knows what they're doing, but that's clearly not me. Might have to ask around in work tomorrow. i7-7700K @ 4.9Ghz | 16Gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz | MSI Z270 Gaming M7 | MSI GeForce GTX 1080ti Gaming X | Win 10 Home | Thrustmaster Warthog | MFG Crosswind pedals | Oculus Rift S
FreeFall Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Or maybe you just contact TM tech support and ask them if they... Plan A: ...could send you a new stick handle as a spare part or Plan B:... could fix both 1. the wires you happened to cut, and 2. the original problem either with firmware update or hardware update if you send them the stick.
Evil.Bonsai Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 TM insides are TRICKY. My Cougar has had an issue with spdbrk switch and IFF switch on the throttle. Somehow the two are shorted together (pressing either activates the other). I've had it apart but 1. the wires are THIN and 2. covered in hot glue. Your issue is much more serious but I've learned to live with mine. :/ Good luck with the repair.
