Very nice. Now try doing it in orbit :)

Also, your tanker is too slow. It should be flying at 220KIAS.

I have no idea how to insert the clip direct to this post, only the link.

This is my 76 refueling, took me some practice to get here, and I guess I have a long way to go... Love this sim

Good job!

Just one half an hour ago I did my first refuel with no unintentional disconnects during the process.

Sweating, heart beating like hell as if the zombie apocalypse just started.

But so rewarding in the end.

Great sim!

How do I get the tanker in orbit?

Any one know of a mission with right parameters, speed etc...

Congrats... it´s a nice feeling when it´s... (all over...:joystick:)

Here's one. The speed may not be quite right but shouldn't be far of.

Refuelling.miz

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

I think you can also make a flight plan with waypoints 1 and 2 and use the following advanced waypoint actions:

at waypoint 1 switch to waypoint 2

at waypoint 2 switch to waypoint 1

Of course you can use more than 2 waypoints and 'design' your own tanker orbits.

Or more easily. Create WP1 and WP2. On WP1 advanced action, peform task, orbit, racetrack.

Actually, very nice stick and throttle control, no oscillating or panic at all! Looked good!

In orbit, nite time. :joystick:

Wow.. this forum is awsome.. nice and kind people, this contributes to the great feeling with this sim...

This was a little bit more interesting

Orbit, night, faster

I think it went pretty well, got one "Brake away" for some reason, maybe someone could tell.

That went nice as well!

If the tanker is flying along kind of sports track shaped route, I find that a bit challenging. I mean the points when the tanker starts/ends its turn.

And with night vision goggles I prefer switching the HUDMODE to the green DAY mode instead of amber NIGHT. Green looks better with goggles. When I switch off the goggles, then I choose the amber NIGHT mode.

Yes, I will try the racetrack soon, with turns start/end. I didn´t get it to work as I wanted in the ME until late yesterday, (past bedtime) I blame this sim for that.

"There was a mission attached in this thread, but I couldn´t start it, it never leaved loading screen."

I usaly decrease the intensity of the hud when flying night/goggles, never tried to have daymode, will try.

Try the one called RefuelNightFairWeather.miz included in the attached .zip.

That should be a long nite time racetrack. I think you have to change the properties of one of the A-10C planes to "Player" in the ME to get going.

And you must find the tanker with TACAN using right channel and AA-mode. The tanker is quite far away when you start the mission.

And use DAY mode with goggles, it's much better. Trust me. :)

Tried the mission you suggested and that was a real challenge, it took me several tries before I made it. But I can not stay connected with the tanker when it goes out of turn to level flight yet, more practice... more fun.

I had daymode on the hud, looked good.

I thought it felt like this refueling mission was more difficult in general than others I have flown.

Found a clip with one of my first attempts af AAR, looks like a drunken monkey flying a pig, atleast I felt like one, I thought this was impossible and I was frustrated when I saw so many people on youtube who did this look so easy.

Some trim and alot of training was the answer for me.

As I mentioned before, the turning points are really challenging. I wonder if they even refuel while orbiting, IRL I mean? All the videos I've seen are straight line ones.

Anyway, your last video seems pretty much like me! :D You were way too much unpatient, no anticipation at all. But that was so long time ago. You have learned your lessons pretty well. You perform f**king nicely now!

They certainly do refuel while orbiting, or otherwise navigating. The tanker has to stay in its track, so you'll see aircraft refuel while starting and coming out of turns as well.

You just need to find the right video. ;)

Thanks, GG. Just wasn't sure because it's kinda hard. Does the tanker crew tell you a few seconds before they are going to turn/orbit? Feels kinda sudden move to me.

Posted

Maybe they tell them, maybe not - generally it shouldn't be needed as it's just part of formation flying. The turn in-game is a bit more sudden than it could be, but nothing you can't keep up with - you just have to pay attention.

It may seem difficult now, but this is how it is for someone who's new at it. You just need to practice 'till it's second nature. In RL it's probably a bit easier because you can feel accelerations in the aircraft, as well as the visuals are quite a bit larger.

And easier to make small adjustments in RL. The sticks much longer than our joystick so I believe that that should make it easier for very small corrections while refueling.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

I've seen that before, just didn't remember. Anyway, AAR while orbit is not an easy task. And maybe not even meant to be an easy one. :smilewink:
