Sierra99 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Probably a weird question but which TF34 engine is modeled in A-10C? The TF34-GE-100, TF34-GE-101 and TF34-GE-400A and all have different thrust ratings... BlueRidgeDx Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 All A-10s have the TF34-100. The -101 has been proposed as an upgrade, but funding is not available. The -400 was used by the S-3 Viking. "They've got us surrounded again - those poor bastards!" - Lt. Col. Creighton Abrams

Are you aware of any plans to transition to the -101 or is it considered to close to the end of service life to start such a program? Its funny, I asked because there are lots of articles on the net from 2003-2008 or so about the A-10 and possible upgrades... but nothing newer or definitive about what was actually done. BlueRidgeDx Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 It was and is still being pitched as an upgrade path for the A-10, or at least it was as of June 2011. With the new wings and upgraded capabilities, the A-10C can fly until 2040, so its not a service life issue. It seems to be a simple matter of funding, and since defense spending made up more than 50% of the recent budget cuts, even though it only makes up 20% of GDP, what might have been possible before seems unlikely now. I suspect that given the pending $500 billion sequestration cuts, we'll see a true gutting of capability and personnel. Unfortunately, A-10 engine upgrades will likely be the last thing on anyone's mind. "They've got us surrounded again - those poor bastards!" - Lt. Col. Creighton Abrams
Outlaw24 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 It would be nice for ED to give us the performance thrust of the -101 here, since it's being considered by the USAF, and might be within our budget restraints :music_whistling: Spoiler: MSI Z790 Carbon WIFI, i9 14900KF, 64GB DDR4, MSI RTX 4090, VKB STECS Mk ll throttle, VKB Gunfighter Ultimate MCG Pro w/200mm Extension, Winwing Orion Rudder Pedals W/damper, Wingwin Monitors/MFD's, UTC MK II Pro, Virpil TCS Plus Collective, MSI 34" QD-OLED @240Hz monitor, Samsung 970 Pro M2 2TB (for DCS), Playseat Air Force Seat, KW-980 Jetseat, Vaicom Pro, Tek Creations panels and controllers.
GGTharos Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 How about 'the version of the aircraft modeled in DCS: A-10C uses the TF-34-100 engine'. :music_whistling: It would be nice for ED to give us the performance thrust of the -101 here, since it's being considered by the USAF, and might be within our budget restraints :music_whistling: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

cichlidfan Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 We'll be ahead of the cruve, a little more thrust is always a good thing  Of course, it would no longer be a simulation of a 'real' A-10. ;) ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! No you don't have to repeat yourself and I know the current A-10 uses the -100, it was just a thought along the lines of the possible upgrade to the A-10C in the future if the funds allowed.
