JCamel Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 (edited) Tried out the MER bombs. Now you'd think hitting a large area target like a car park with submunitions would be easy but no, they consistently miss. Track attached. I even tried aiming them short to compensate but somehow they always found a way of missing. Almost like smart weapons in the way they consistently thought of how to miss. I think it's something to do with the release delay not be accounted for by the release program.MER D.trk Edited July 22, 2012 by JCamel If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.
JCamel Posted July 22, 2012 Author Posted July 22, 2012 Finally managed a hit with manual release.MER Manual.trk If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.
JCamel Posted July 23, 2012 Author Posted July 23, 2012 I actually meant the KMGU dispenser. If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.
Grimes Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 If you watch the process of how a KMGU deploys its bomb-lets you will notice a time difference between when the CCRP piper reaches 0 and when the first bomb-let falls from the aircraft. You have to compensate by aiming short of the target. I honestly don't know if the piper is supposed to compensate for it or not. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Pretty sure that i read in the FC 2 manual it doesn't..... ***EDIT*** Just found the following in the FC2 Flight Manual concerning the KMGU's The KMGU-2 sub-munitions dispensers differ in that it‟s required to offset the aiming point from the target to allow the container‟s rotary clam-shell time to open. JCamel Posted July 23, 2012 Author Posted July 23, 2012 In light of that, if I'm guessing anyway, I may as well use manual, un-assisted CCIP. Seems like a pretty daft TV-assistance system. I also miss the CBU-97/105. Is there no Russian equivalent? If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.

As for targeting in CCRP goes whit KMGU's, it take's about 2 second's for the bomb doors to open and start dispensing. So if you have the "time to release" indicator at the LH side of the hud, start releasing the bombs when the marker is at the bottom stripe and you hear the 2 second tone. (you may need to use launch override for this) Also note that the FC manual mentions an optimum release altitude for this weapon system between 50 and 150 meters. anyways here's a link to the FC2 flight manual, should answer a lot of your questions. http://www.185th.co.uk/Flaming%20Cliffs/lockon_fc2_gui_manual_en.pdf The time scale in the HUD can be seen in the manual page 68, pdf document page 80 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The keeper of all mathematical knowledge and the oracle of flight modeling.:)
