I read on the P-51D forum that it is using a newer version of Starforce which solely relies on online activation, with no lifetime limit but simply a limit on the number of times one can activate every month. Does the boxed version of DCS: A-10C use the same system? Note: I require a reply from an ED representative before I can make the purchase.

All products currently utilize Starforce AAA. As you correctly stated, there is no lifetime limit. In addition, there is no limit to the amount of monthly activations/deactivations, nor is there a limit to the amount of times you can install and uninstall the products, which in itself do not require any activations/deactivations.

There is however a limit to the amount of activations and deactivations you have (nine and ten respectively). Once your activations are depleted, said activations are automatically replenished at a rate of one per month. Keep in mind that only one is replenished. If used, another will get replenished after a month and so on and so on.

For further info, see this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=67025

And no, I am not an ED representative. This matter has however been dealt with so many times that I am assured in my answer.

Viper,

If that is the case, then can we do something about the information that says there is a monthly limit. That info is obviously incorrect, according to your statements, and keeps getting repeated, not to mention copied from one FAQ to another.

This is from the P-51 FAQ. It is probably duplicated in the BS and A-10 FAQ (and CA if one exists).

Q: Does DCS: P-51D Mustang use copy protection?

A: Yes, it uses the new user-friendly ProActive AAA Technology.

You will no longer have a fixed number of activations, but in an effort to prevent piracy the system does limit the number of activations per month. Your DCS P-51D Mustang serial number is initially set to 8 activations and when they all are spent, 1 activation is added automatically once, after 31 days.

ProActive AAA Technology does not install any drivers on your PC. It works as an integrated part of the DCS files but has no special privileges in your system.

It appears that I have erred in that particular aspect and am obtaining clarification. Humble apologies to the OP for the erroneous statement re activations per month, although with unlimited installs/uninstalls a limit of activations should not cause undue hardship unless you are activating on a secondary PC or upgrading on a three-weekly basis.

In any event, as pointed out the older threads do need updating - even confused me as it happened :)

Thanks. I have no issues with activations but it sure would be nice to know how the current implimentation actually functions.

I'm attempting to find out, especially in the case of installing on a laptop and desktop. I am surprised that that particular scenario has not come up before, ie prevention of activation on both, as it is allowed on the basis that both installs are not used at the same time. People have enquired as to the latter - I am surprised that no comments have been received regarding the former, contributing to my earlier bourde :)

Well, considering I currently have the entire world suite activated on a laptop and a desktop, and possibly a copy of A-10 v1.1.1.1 on a third machine (maybe on a second key), with the same set of keys I will just sit quietly. :P

OK - it appears that the devil is in the details, ie interpretation thereof :)

Your activations are limited to one activation per month after you have used up the original amount allocated, ie 8 (or 9). In other words, you can burn through the original amount as fast as you please. Once done, the one-per-month limit kicks in.

That is the way I had understood it back when A-10 was released. Then the wording in the FAQ changed and confusion set in. Thanks again.

And, if I understand aright, I do not ever need to lose any of the original 8 activations, as long as I am able to deactivate every time I uninstall, right?

Posted

Right, but you don't necessarily need to deactivate if you uninstall. If you're doing an uninstall just to re-install the game for whatever reason (ie. you think the files are messed up in the game etc) then you don't need to touch the activation.

If you're changing PC's, if you're reinstalling the whole OS then that's another story. You have a limited number of de-activations as well, but in theory the combination should all last you quite a while.
