arraamis Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Hey guys, I've been reading the more recent posts about the amount of activations issued to people who purchased the Web version of FC1.1 ***Please Note*** I don't want speculations, and I don't want assumptions. I am requesting ACTUAL FACTS, from people who would\should know. Because this post will become part of my documentation on this issue and its has to be accurate. ***Please Note*** I don't want to initiate flames or SF\ED bashing in this post. {that is NOT the purpose of my request for information} I'm just a user who is entitled to some concrete facts. And, if you review my past posts, you should understand that I'm not here to start trouble of any kind, I'm just here for answers to my questions. =============== My concern is about the most recent patch 1.11 and future patches issued to improve the Lockon line. Often these patches require a NEW install and since I'm down to 2 activations, I need to know: 1. how many total activations will be\should have been issued to users who purchased the web version of FC 1.1 ? {I have read that some were issued 15 and some, like myself were just issued 5} 2. is there an established protocol for dealing with activation issues, {meaning when I run out of activations} or is it based on the fly ? 3. is this a limited use product, where after X amount of activations, users will have to\be required to re-purchase the product ? My concerns have been stimulated by the reinstalls required everytime a new patch is developed and released. And, please don't mention the little tools issued to save the registry and such, I'm looking for facts about the activations issue, not hacks utilized to get around them. There seems to be some confusion about these issues and every post on the subject seems to turn into a flame war, so no concrete answers are ever established. Best Regards & Thanks Thats as civil as I can make it, hopefully you will respond in kind.
GGTharos Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Those 'little hacks' are there so that you can reinstall the game and NOT use up activations. They save your keys - USE them. The ARE part of the 'facts about activation issues' and they are part and parcel of the deal, NOT 'hacks to get around them'. The 1.11 patch in fact automatically saves your keys when you uninstall IIRC. 1. Depends on when you bought it. THe first batch of buyers got 15 because of the immense trouble originally caused by SF. 2. You contact ED, and they take it from there. 3. Technically correct. ED may decide to give you more activations, but there are no guarantees. Pilotasso Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 A small side note here: In CD version you will be asked to insert CD on drive when your hardware changes. I had changed ISP, along with modem (no drivers installed since setup is donne in the modem's ROM) and then SF issued me an alert screen asking to insert CD for verification. I assume theres no limit for the hardware changes? Then whats the big deal of having to check if hardware changed at all? Just curious. .
Sleek Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 My concerns have been stimulated by the reinstalls required everytime a new patch is developed and released. I've "never" had to reinstall ?? and I'm fully patched up with the D/L version! Be Good..Be Strong..:drink: ;)
504 Wolverine Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Arraamis if you use the LockOn_Save_Registry tool available to save the SF registry info and burn the file somewhere safe you will never have to worry about the number of times you have to reinstall FC.
arraamis Posted October 26, 2005 Author Posted October 26, 2005 I thought it was a requirement to uninstall & reinstall with the new (1.11) Patch. {don't remember exactly where I read this} Thanks For Your Help Guys ...... I realize that this record has been played before, but its good to get the info straight from the right people..
504 Wolverine Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 It was not a requirement but a recommendation. I followed the recommended way and did a clean install 1.0 - 1.1 - 1.11.
