Hey, it's a great machine. I'm perpetually looking for a surviving sample. Getting hard to find people that are willing to part with theirs at a sane price though. (I made the mistake of selling my old kit when the Pentium came around.)

I wish I had never parted with mine either. Though I did have that old 1702 (I think) monitor in use for many years after.

I almost caught the motherlode a while back.

A C64 with monitor, two bandstations, floppy station, and even a bloody commodore matrix printer! Everything operational. At 1000 SEK. (~100 euro).

Sadly, when I called, someone else already got there. :(

Damn!!!! That would have been sweet. My mother had one of those printers. It is still one of the loudest printers I have ever seen, next to a 132 column line printer!

This was the only pic I could find quickly (I have better somewhere) but this is my 'rig' from almost 30yrs ago. Note the Epson RX-80 printer that cost more to get connected (BusCard II interfact IIRC) and printing than the C-64 itself. :D

Hahah, the good old days. :)

Remember the Amiga era, and those awesome floppy boxes? :D

And DRM through asking page, paragraph, line and letter in the manual? (It worked, too - I had a pirate copy (Amiga days - bought mine second hand and of course there was a LOT of bootleg going on even then) of Frontier: Elite II for the Amiga, but ended up buying it because I didn't have the manual. :) Sadly, I lost the manual for chessmaster 2000 on the IBM 286 and never found a second hand source for that. :( )

Good memories from setting that thing to highest difficulty and having it "think" for half an hour after every move. :D

(I was put back on earth when I got one of the first Dell PDA's running Windows CE, and couldn't beat it's chess program on easy... :D )

OMG! Infocom!

Sadly, I think I lost my original boxes a couple years back. :(

EDIT: I feel sorry for the young'uns. :D

EDIT2: Holy ****. I just realised. I haven't even seen my Falcon 3 box since my last move! God damn it... Now I'm REALLY scared!

EDIT3: On a more mellow note, remember GEOS for productivity? :D

Let's see Paperclip (cartridge) for Word Processing and it cost about $100 as I recall. Life was quite a bit different living on the 'bleeding edge'! :D

Yeah, I picked up on your age a while back from somewhere around here.

EDIT3: On a more mellow note, remember GEOS for productivity? :D

I bought my C64 from an active demo scene member and programmer. The rig came with ~200 5.25" floppy discs. I could find something new 2 years after acquiring it! It was like having your own internet in a box :megalol: Anyway, one day I found GEOS. Holy *p! I was amazed! It even had word processor with Gothic ("medieval") fonts and a program where you'd put some music notes and it would play the melody! :shocking:

It also came with Basic, LOGO, and Assembler programming books. A book on the processor family and a book on cracking game assembler code e.g. to get infinite lives while... learning assembler the easy way.

Edit:

The book on cracking was:

Jak zostać nieśmiertelnym? (How to become immortal?)

Activision Fighter Bomber

Defender of the Crown

International Karate

Stunt Car Racer

These 4 pop in my mind immediately as the best C64 games ever made.

The latter one was a complex strategy with even tournament (mounted) in FPP mode when contemporary games looked like this! V

atariSpaceInvaders.gif

Other:

Sid Meyer's Pirates

Secret Service (U-Bot simulation)

International Karate

Saboteur 1

Stunt Car Racer

Accolade's Formula One (?)

Rick Dangerous (platform game)

Creatures

C64 Creatures I Longplay - Stage 1 - YouTube

Boulder Dash

Commando

.

.

.

I can't seem to find one game though. Weird. I bet it was called Moby (or the publisher was Mobygames) and it was about an anteater, who would spit ants as projectiles :) Epic platformer with intro and everything. Looked as if it was for PC. Google returns nothing though. Any hints?
