illern Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 If I use for example right trim then left aileron can´t move as far as before trim. If I trim full right aileron then i can´t bank left at all. Likewise to the left trim. When on ground I still can use full left and right aileron even when fully trimmed. But in the air it gets crippled. Trim is not supposed to limit normal movement of the surfaces. It should only deploy the small trim surfaces. Attach a track where I use full aileron movements to show that it cannot move to one side after trim. Start on the ground when it works and then takeoff to show when it stops working. /illerntrim.trk Win10Prox64, Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro, Intel i7-9900K@5,1GHz, 32Gb DDR4 GSkill TridentZ@3900GHz, Gigabyte RTX 2080ti Xtreme 11Gb, Game on Samsung M2 960 Pro, TM WH HOTAS, TM TPR , HP Reverb Pro G1, TM MFD
KLR Rico Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 The trim tabs deflect the control surface, that's why they move "opposite" (elevator up trim would move the tab down, pushing the elevator up). In a real plane, the trim relieves the pressure from the stick, but doesn't "recenter" it like with the joystick. For example, flying at very low speed, you would damn near have the stick in your lap and you might have used 60% of the up elevator's total throw. You could trim away the pressure you need to hold that attitude, but the stick doesn't change position, you still have used 60% of the total available travel. With a joystick, springs provide the resistance, so you can't trim the same way, but as far as the sim airplane is concerned, you've really trimmed like in real life, and used up some of the throw. The reason using full trim on the ground doesn't appear to affect the controls is that the trim tabs are aerodynamic. I'm sure this would have been more clear if I wasn't a few beers into my evening... :D i5-4670K@4.5GHz / 16 GB RAM / SSD / GTX1080 Rift CV1 / G-seat / modded FFB HOTAS
illern Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 ok, now I see that I got it wrong with the aerodynamic trim tabs. But I have done some more testing and it looks like the only trim that actually are doing something is the rudder trim. Apply even the smallest rudder trim and the airplane is going nose down right or left. Only way to get the airplane to fly straight is to set exactly center position on the rudder trim. The other two trims are only moving the trim tab and limiting my stick movement. Noting actually happens to the plane until I get to the end of trim when I no longer have any movement of my stick left, then the plane suddenly turn and you cannot do anything about it but reset trim so you can turn the opposite direction. /illern Win10Prox64, Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro, Intel i7-9900K@5,1GHz, 32Gb DDR4 GSkill TridentZ@3900GHz, Gigabyte RTX 2080ti Xtreme 11Gb, Game on Samsung M2 960 Pro, TM WH HOTAS, TM TPR , HP Reverb Pro G1, TM MFD
