emenance Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I honestly cant see much of an improvement for LOCK ON useing esp 2 7800 gtx cards. One gtx should be good enough. Esp since that graphics in this game really just seem to ask for power , performance, not a bunch of fancy video card tricks and tech. know what I mean? From what I read alot of people are having problems with it, and just like the poster above they are going with a gtx card or similar and forgetting about SLI for now. Untill ATI can even have a smooth SLI solution and many game makers are making stuff that greatly benifits from it then ofcourse why use it? Guest EVIL-SCOTSMAN Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 there is no imrovement using sli in lockon, well none that i see, 1 card is the best for lockon, but other games is a different story, most new games now support sli, and for example, farcry which is an old game, it kicked teh shiat outta one 7800gtx at max settings etc, add another to that mix, and its smooth as a babys butt, same with F.E.A.R and a good few other games. but for lockon, there is no need for 2 cards. You are right about it not doing jack for lockon, but as i said, most if not all new games will be made with sli in mind, also newer drivers = more sli profiles for older and newer games, so like it or not, sli is the future, whether it will come in one card as they are doing now, 2 gpu's on one card. That still equates to sli, as to run both gps on the one card, it turns on sli. Like or dont like it, you will eventually have to use some sort of sli system in the near future if you want the best out of games. Now that ati has got there crossfire on the market, just makes things worse. It now means the war is on, and nothing will turn it back to single gpu's. dualcore gpus are nearer completion and it wont be long before we see that on a vid card. If people didnt buy/adopt it, then we would have some say asto what happens, but thats long past and manufacturers are looking to the dual card/dualcore/dual gpu solution for graphics.
TucksonSonny Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Check out my sig I updated it, didn't think anyone would be interested so I left it out, you ever consider squeezing the fx55 of yours? you would be surprised at the difference it would make, not so much with this game in particular, but all around it is like you would have an fx57 at the least, I have an venice amd 3000 clocked at 2610mhz, other then lacking the 1000mhz fsb that thing flys, I fail to understand why anyone would spend $50 more for a 3200 0r the price difference upto a 3800(recently all the prices have dropped on 3800 and below), they all have the same fsb and the only difference is what they are stock clocked at, and the only catch is added cost of a better hsf, aslong as it is kept under 55degrees nothing is happening that would cause any damage to the processor, well good tccd ram wouldn't hurt either, the ocz ee ram I' am running is hand picked and test sorted samsung tccd which is no where near it's max capable setting ....yet, sorry this is a game site, honestly I spend more time on tweaking then I do playing the actual games I build these systems for. Thanks for all the advice! My FX-55 CPU temp is about 40°C @2.813Ghz (x14 multiplier) (in summer it will be +50°C :icon_redf ) Anyway I have my warning alarm set on 60°C. I think I got about average 5 FPS extra! I guess my video adapter is now the bottleneck. Shaman Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Never run vsync, the only reason it is there is if you have tearing. It can actually lower your FPS. It only lowers maximum FPS to the same amount as monitor's refresh rate. So if you run at 100Hz refresh rate (which means exactly 100 images per second), you're max FPS can't get over 100. So Vsync may affect average results in benchmark tests, but does not effect normal play at all. 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
