112th_Rossi Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 My current X52 (non-pro) has a problem. The sockets that you plug the interconnecting cable to link the throttle with the stick are no longer holding the cable. Whoever thought that a 5pin friction mounted DIN cable would suffice to link the two sections together requires taking out of the office at dawn and shot. Ever since I got the stick the slack connection between the two parts has always threatened to come loose or get damaged/bent. Now it has. The stick no can keep a reliable connection to the throttle and occasionally spikes throwing out garbage information to the PC. So I'm going to buy a new stick, I like the X52 Pro. Can anyone confirm the method by which the two components are linked together, if its another 5 pin DIN connector then forget it. Thanks.
112th_Rossi Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 Ok found out that it does. No deal.
Devrim Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 I think both model has same connector. My 5-pin connector still alive. And you're right. It's not a good design. I'm trying to be carefull, but I don't know how long it lives. algerad3 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Actually Saitek is quite fond of those connectors. The x52 (pro and non pro) have cables with the connector on both ends. The X65 has one end soldered to the throttle pcb board and the other end is a 5 pin connector that plugs into the stick. I had to send one back because the connector came out and one of the pins shorted against another and rendered the stick useless. I think the best bet would be to glue the connection together if feasible for your situation. 112th_Rossi Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 The X45 used a 15 pin D-Sub. These connectors are a step backwards. Really annoying. I'm not sure I can fix it as it seem the socket is slightly bent inwards so the cable doesn't make a snug fit.
cichlidfan Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Whoever thought that a 5pin friction mounted DIN cable would suffice to link the two sections together requires taking out of the office at dawn and shot. That connector worked fine on nearly every PC in the world for many years. It connected both the mouse and keyboard (PS2). I also used them on numerous KVM switches as well. Have you considered that the cable is the problem, not the connector in the stick/throttle. I replaced my X-52 Pro cable a week after getting the unit because the cable was bad right out of the box. Devrim Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Everything is fine normally to me, too. But, in time, especially my legs with rudder movements can move the cable and one or two days later connector may be disconnected. As algerad3 mentioned, I'll glue them. Not real one (how to say), it's hot plastic thing. That's a good temporary solution I think.
