ViperVJG73 Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 The TAS (True Airspeed) and IAS (Indicated Airspeed) Indicators in the MiG-29 Su-27/33 cockpits, displays not differently airspeed. PS. Aircraft display an Indicated Airspeed (abbreviated IAS) on an instrument ... Indicated airspeed will differ from true airspeed (" TAS" ) at air densities ... Gazehound Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 There is a TAS indicator? Where? TAS is shown in the bottom of the screen in external views, I think only IAS is shown in cockpit (HUD and Dial), but then maybe im wrong - i would very much like to know where I can read TAS! Unless you mean the Mach indicator - which works fine for me - eg mach 1 = 560 KIAS @ 12km, but 1100 KIAS @ 0km (im guessing on that one) VVS504 Red Hammers
Guest IguanaKing Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 There's usually a second, thinner needle on Russian airspeed indicators that shows TAS, but I don't even see it on the LOMAC instruments.
Ironhand Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Depends on which aircraft. The Su-25T airspeed indicator provides both IAS and TAS. Depends on which aircraft. The Su-25T airspeed indicator provides both IAS and TAS. TAS is referenced on the inner dial with yellow numbers. Read TAS as the yellow number under the airspeed needle. The Su-27 and -33 and MiG-29 indicate TAS as a function of MACH, I believe. In both Sukois, IAS is on the outer dial of the airspeed indicator and MACH is on the inner dial (as Gazehound indicated). I haven't spent much time in the MiG-29 cockpit but, IIRC, the airspeed indicator only shows IAS. There is a separate MACH meter under the VVI. Guest IguanaKing Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Thanks for the info, Han. I had no idea there were so many variations out there. I've only been in the pits of L-39s and MiG-17s IRL.

Guest IguanaKing Posted November 12, 2005 Posted November 12, 2005 Yup...sorry I missed this post BRD. I know what you mean about the pit of despair, I was in one of those a little over two years ago. She was Russian too...but a Sukhoi employee. Well...come to think of it...I've been in the pits of Su-26s and Su-29s too.
