How do you manage your tweaks & customisations?

I always end up with a large number of customised files in DCS. Over time I add new tweaks & customisations as they crop up on these forums.

When it comes to a fresh install, pretty frequent due the patching / updating process that DCS has been going through I often feel rather dispirited. This is exasperated by often needing to reset up the key configurations. The combination of these two tasks will often lead to me not playing for considerable periods of time. Setting up multi-monitor settings, numerous mods & key configs, especially as i use HawgTouch profiles for numerous modules can take me a lot of tedious hours to do.

How do you deal with this process? Do you have any advice? How do you keep track of your mods?

I have keymaps/key cards for my HOTAS for each module that i can refer to to help with the key assignments.. but the process is still a ball ache. When FC3 arrives with its numerous airframes all with their own key assignments the whole thing will be even more daunting.

I could simply not bother with any customisation... but they do make a massive difference to my enjoyment of the sims.

Where is modman.. :(

Any tips, trick or the like would be much appreciated.

I fear there is none. A tedious and time consuming process, so I often skip an update.

I use Jonesoft's Generic Mod Enabler a.k.a. JSGME. It makes installing and managing mods a breeze, although you'll often have to convert your mods' file structure in order to make them work with it. But that's not too hard if you're at all computer-savvy...

I think Jonesoft has stopped developing it, but Google's yer friend - plenty of old versions floating around still. HTH mate :)

Another vote for JSGME here. I love it.

For DCS World I keep a separate mod folder for each module, e.g., CA_MODS, A10_MODS, etc.

MadTommy,

I feel your pain. I have the exact same problem with every DCS update.

Since the last version, what I started doing was creating a "DCS Mods" folder outside of my DCS folder, into which I placed a copy of every new or modified file that I changed or added in DCS. When a new DCS version is released, I then just copy the entire contents of my "DCS Mods" folder into my new DCS folder, and everything's there.

But of course, some mods & edits are things where individual values need to be changed in lua files and I don't necessarily want to overwrite the new DCS version's files with my own older files. In this case I've created a spreadsheet showing every file I've changed and in what way. When I install a new DCS version, I then go through each file in the new DCS install and change each one according to what is shown in my spreadsheet. Tedious, yes, but at least organized and methodical.

The change from the standalone 1.1.1.1 modules to being incorporated into DCS World in 1.2.0 required a HUGE amount of setup work on my part to get everything working, as, in particular, the controller lua files had changed considerably. Hopefully, we won't see such radical changes like that again any time soon.

Does anyone know if MODMAN is updated to work with DCSW?

I don't think so.. but JSGME is very similar in its functions. Check it out.

GregP thanks for your input, i have attempted to do similar in the past.. but ended up not bothering and just saying 'arr sod it'.

But i think its a good approach.

I'm gonna use JSGME and see how things go.

To help this i have created an empty DCS World empty folder structure. The whole folder structure with all files removed. (done automatically with Directory Opus)

Here it is for anyone who wants it.. very useful for JSGME and keeping mods organised.

Cheers mate, saves me trying to work out how to create the empty structure myself :)
