Cannot assign a SOUND TO COALITION ???

Hi! I dont seem to be able to assign the trigger SOUND TO COALITION, is ti normal?

I find a .WAV sound that I want, and in the triggers window, I make a trigger to activate a sound and I cannot hear it?

When you do a trigger :

ONCE, FLAG is TRUE (x), SOUND TO COALITION (blue, xxx.wav)

first of all one needs to specify which sound with the OPN button (open?) and it opens a browser to find the sound. I did point to a xxx.WAV that is in the windows sounds. But there are two more buttons in the bottom : PLAY and STOP and these two dont seem to make a difference? I cannot play it (let alone stop it?)

And then, in mission, I dont hear it either, is it a bug or is it me? (use to be able to do this easily before?)

does the sound play correctly when you assign it as sound to all?

There are various types of .wav file (just to confuse us all) it may be that its not supported by the in game codec. Attach it and I'll take a look.

I assume if you press the 'play' button on the trigger in the editor, if it plays, its supported.

Try that.

My present mission project has sound to coalition working without issue.

Thanks to you both for the replies.

MTommy, you are right, my .WAV doesnt play when I push the PLAY button in the trigger editor... I was using a very stupid WINDOWS notify sound, (I thought just to make sure I dont use a weird .WAV file...) but it seems not supported...

Sorry Druid, I am trying to attach the file (upload) and the forum engine says : invalid file...

It is the most common Windows Notify.WAV found in every Windows system sounds...

I dont know what type of sound can I use and where to find them?

Do you have a suggestion?

(I just want a good electronic kind of BEEP to alert the pilot when I make a message to him via the trigger MESSAGE TO COALITION) any suggestion?

thanks a lot

The game has loads of suitable sounds..

Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Sounds\Speech\Sound\ENG\Common\Allied Flight\USA\1\CallSign

in this folder you will find call sings, i use them to alert pilots of messages. If the flight is Tusk 1-1, use a tusk.wav sound..

There are loads.. \Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Sounds\Speech\Sound

I'm sure there are beeps etc too.

I use a static sound much like when you when the press transmit switch as a message notifier. Can't attach the file as away from pc atm.

As for attaching files to post you could always copy them to your desktop and zip them, then attach. Especially if the file type is not supported but the forum.

woahw.....

I found my problem and it is quite funny...

It appears that sounds from the trigger editor are played in game as GUI sounds...

In the OPTIONS, AUDIO, I had turned down the GUI sounds to 0, as I do most of games because it pisses me to hear a click every time I mouse click on something...

That's why I couldnt hear any of my sounds (neither in the Trigger editor nor in game...)

I cranked GUI sounds to 100% and now I can hear all sounds, including the excellent suggestions by MadTommy (sounds folder in DCS).

thanks for the help, as always, guys!

I dont think my reasoning was stupid...

I my understanding, GUI (graphical user interface) is completely unrelated to the 3D world of the flying (it seems like it is even a totally different software...) and the sounds in GUI are little clicks when you click your mouse over an item in a menu, etc... I always turn this off in most games.

In the 3D world, when flying, even with GUI sounds turned down, all sounds play normally (engines, RWR, gun, etc...), how is it that if I want to assign them to a trigger (same sounds) they are in the GUI category? Seems odd to me, but...

DOH... glad I found it and thanks for your help anyhow!

Not calling you stupid, I would never have assumed GUI sound option affected the ingame sound like that. :-)
