So I'm REALLY new to this game and I'm sooooooooooooooooo lost. I read that I could either do SIM or Arcade and I found myself no understanding the SIM to well (I got very close) so I wanted to try the arcade system. Everyone says that it is super easy. My problem is that I tried using my joystick, keyboard & mouse, and Xbox 360 controller and I cant figure out how to even start the helicopter....

this is very frustrating considering that the mode is called "arcade".

My problem now is that:

1) Don't even know if I'm in arcade mode.

2) Don't know how to start up helicopter.

Any help would be nice... other than YouTube videos because that didn't help and they make it look easy.

I found that earlier, but I just want to pick up and play like in the arcade mode.

I never tried arcade mode, Did not interest me . Off the top of my head , go to the options screen and click gameplay. Once on that page , look at bottom and click arcade/game.

( I had to cheat and open the game and look.) I have now tried arcade mode . Cute , but not me .... Good luck.

I was just trying it with my Xbox controller and it was too simple. I'm back to the SIM config and I like it a lot more, even though it'll take time and effort before I'm decent at it. haha

I have had the sim since it came out and I am still working on my skills.

Though I don't devote a lot of time to it , I am coming around. It is rewarding as you get the hang of it.

I have all the modules and the hard time is deciding which one to practice, I tend to favor the black shark though.

Keep at it and you will prevail.

Any questions just ask here , a lot of cool folks on these boards.

This game is like a fun project to me. Now that I know there is great support, I have no excuses not to keep working at it. :)

It is a large learning curve. This is the hardest sim aircraft I have ever learned, and I am sill learning it 10 months later. But I am self-taught.

Some of the guys that I respect highly as to flying the sim jet aircraft will not mess with the helicopter because it so difficult to learn.

I landed my 1st successful FARP last night in DCS World after many previous attempts. I landed it, refueled, rearmed and took off again. What I did different was give myself a plus 40 Curvature slider in my X and Y cyclic roll/pitch controls in Axis Tune in Axis Commands in the Options\Controls setup.

Though, I always play in full Ka-50 Sim mode.

Bigfoot has some really great training film tutorials:

and separately, this:

If you buy Black Shark version 1.0 (if you can still buy that version) and install it in a separate directory and do not upgrade it, you will have interactive training films that are better than what Bigfoot has, IMHO, as to the beginner's entry learning experience.

I like books to learn from than the likes of Kindle and similar. There is a book that can be purchased, the Flight Manual for Black Shark 1, copyright is 2009. It is dated and some of the info has been updated to the online manual. A lot of it is in the Russian language as to the cockpit controls lettering. I found mine to Amazon.com .

I am thinking about buying an unbreakable (or relatively so), electric, RC training helicopter and tether it to the ground. I don't think an RC model helicopter can be much more difficult than this sim.

Well the start-up is something you need to learn, and it will come eventually if you just make an effort. It's very easy and forgiving when it comes to button-mashing randomly.

I have a stream in my signature (aimed mostly) for newbies where I just record when I play. Older streams are saved so you can just skip to parts you would like to see more of :)
